Yeah, they look goofy to me, but I'm not building them or buying them or racing them, but I do buy tickets to watch them. Reminds me of home made tanks the sprintcars (called supermodifieds way back when) had in the 60s.
Lawlessness and liberalism equals Hell. NY City,
Detroit, Seattle, Chicago, Minnepolis, etc. We saw it.
Burning hundreds of buildings, a thousand assaults and
dozens of murders. Getting worser and worser.

I think they look pretty cool - I like the old supers' look. Sucks when all the cars look alike -- except their color...

Why do the square tail tanks win? Granted Sammy is running one, but what advantage do they provide?

The theory is the square tank lets more fuel sit lower on the car so when the track slicks off, there is more weight on the rear end.

When I ran a 125 cc Micro Sprint ten plus years ago we ran a tank similar to what Sammy has. The only difference was that our fuel cell was on the right side of the car instead of the rear. In the old days of mini-sprints the racing line was only on the bottom. People would move or "root" people out of the way if they couldn't get a round them. The main reason why we ran a flat tank, is because its a lot harder to get some leverage on a flat bumper compared to a regular bumper to spin or move someone out of the way. Personally I love the idea and their looks.

Has nothing to do with fuel and everything to do with someone not spinning you out as easy. Steelzer is exactly right . Now the square tail tanks are no where near as ugly as the flat fronted cars that couldn't do anything but bounce around and then the black flat fronted 0 car that in my opinion should be banned . They caused too many wrecks

I like it... yea looks a little like the old supers...
The sprint cars have become too cookie cutter...
loosen up the rules and let some of Karl Kinser's designs
come back...

Yeah the 0 car you're talking about it Johnny Murdock. He comes every year, spins twice most everytime he hits the track and is then forced off by the 2-spin rule. Seems like he'd improve over time, but he seemingly does it every year. As Desflur said, the square tank is primarily to provide better protection from being spun by the guy behind you.

Not going for it.
Is Sammy the only one who doesn't want to get spun out? Certainly if the "not as easy to spin out" theory was correct, more people would've jumped on the design, especially the ones with multiple cars and an unlimited budget. You really think Sammy is going to sit in a shop and say, "You know...I don't really want to get spun from behind, so lets re-design the entire fuel tank."?
Sammy has designed a ton of stuff, and he was in college for an engineering degree which I think he never got, but that's besides the case. It makes sense for a guy to say, "Let's redesign the tank to get more bite." It doesn't make sense for a guy, and especially Sammy to say, "This will make it harder for someone to spin me out."

2 years in a row a "normal" oval/oblong shaped tank has won the chili bowl. Side note: that tank is on the car of the son who you guys are arguing about!
let em run tanks shaped like vaginas, who cares?
do it in the dirt

Fast is great but a race car still needs to look good....like the winner's mom....the last 25 years look a whole lot better on her than they do on me
