(Oxnard, Ca 1-12-2011) Ventura is proud and happy to announce the addition of three new staff members for the 2011 racing season. As Ventura Raceway has continued to grow in classes, the need to add staff was apparent and it is now possible to announce the following new staff members for the upcoming season.
1. Walt Johnson Jr.: Walt will be assisting VRA Director of Competition Director Cliff Morgan in helping oversee the VRA Sprint Cars and the new VRA Midget and Focus Midget Series that will begin racing this year. Walt has vast experience in midget racing fostered by his parents, long time USAC officials Walt and Pat Johnson. Walt has raced USAC Midgets and TQ Midgets in the past and has been the lead official in the USAC Western States Midget Series for the past two seasons. Walt will help us make a smooth transition for the new midget program into our weekly racing.
2. Nellie Stansberry: Nellie will be working with Ventura Raceway in establishing and working with our new electronic scoring system that is being installed at the track for 2011. Nellie has been involved in scoring races for many years with USAC, VRA and CDCRA. Scoring of the races is a extremely important part of our program and having Nellie come on board is a true asset that has been needed for some time.
3. Ray Stansberry: Ray is coming on board to work with VRA Tech Director Keith Porter in the area of Sprint Car, Midget and Dwarf Car Tech. Ray has been a part of racing in the West for many years as a racer, car owner and crew chief. Ray raced CDCRA and VRA Dwarf Cars for many years. He was the car owner and crew chief for his son Tom Stansberry when he raced VRA Sprints at Ventura and throughout California. He has also worked with many other teams that have raced here and all over California. His knowledge of the open wheeled classes we run will be a positive asset to the new season.
The ability to add these fine new staff members will add to the quality program that Ventura Raceway has worked so long to establish. All of us at Ventura Raceway welcome these new members to our staff and family.
