FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NOVEMBER 19, 2010
DICK JORDAN

RAIN FORECASTS FORCE CANCELLATION OF VENTURA’S “ARP FALL CLASSIC”

Forecasts for heavy rain in Southern California, expected to begin today and continue through Sunday, have conspired to force cancellation of Saturday night’s “ARP Fall Classic” USAC racing program at the Ventura (Calif.) Raceway. The event included the USAC Mopar National and Western Midgets and Western Ford Focus and Focus Young Guns Midgets.

The next USAC event is Thursday night’s (Nov. 25) 70th”Turkey Night Grand Prix” at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale, Calif. featuring the USAC Mopar National and Western Midgets, AMSOIL USAC Western Sprint Cars and USAC Western Ford Focus Midgets.

For Immediate Release

From: Ventura Raceway

Contact: Cliff Morgan

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(Oxnard, Ca 11-19-10) It is with regret that due to the impending storm that is scheduled to hit Ventura and the Southern California area late Friday night and into Saturday, we have had to make the very difficult decision to cancel the USAC Fall Midget Classic presented by ARP event at Ventura Raceway scheduled for Saturday November 20th. We made this decision in order to keep all our competitors, crews and fans from making the trip to Ventura only to have the event cancelled. All weather forecasts predict rain in the amount of .75-150 inches during the period making holding the race impossible. At this time no make up or rain date is scheduled. We are very sorry that this decision had to be made, but in the best interests of all concerned it was the only decision possible.

We want to thank all our fans, competitors, sponsors and employees for their support in 2010. We are now planning our 2011 season and our new schedule will be out as soon as all dates and events can be finalized.

Thought there was a raindate for next Friday too! The cars are already here, most will probably be at Turkey Nite Thursday, and Friday made perfect sense.

I suspect that they are expecting enough rain to create a mud bog out of the track and the parking lot.

You are correct about that posted rain date.

since when does making perfect sense have anything to do with USAC or Naylor?

THIS SUCKS! Next weekend could have been a Trifecta of 3 different races on 3 great tracks! I hope Ventura reconsiders the 11/26 date!

This race needs to be run. It's about risk vs. reward. Best is the race goes on. Worst is it's rained out and everyone hangs out at a bar and shoots the bull.

Everything you know is wrong.

Here is the address:

http://www.venturaraceway.com/

Basically they have a lot of work to do to prepare the parking lot, access roads and the track itself. With the close proximity of the ocean, it is hard to drain and dry out the area. Perhaps they may have to consider Sunday.

From ventura raceway website

(Oxnard, CA., 4pm 11-19-10) After discussions between USAC, Ventura Raceway and the Sponsors of the USAC Fall Midget Classic presented by ARP, we are working on an attempt to reschedule the event for Friday November 26. If the event can be held it will be a Western States Midget event rather than a USAC National Midget event. This is due to the fact that many of the National Midget teams have prior travel commitments. In order to hold the event, the pit area and raceway facility will have to be made accessible to teams and fans. The major problem facing Ventura Raceway is the fact that the entire outer pit area has been under construction for over a month by the City of Ventura and may not be able to be prepared if too much rain occurs this weekend. All efforts will be made to make the necessary preparations to hold the event. An announcement as to the rescheduling of this event will be made by 2:00 PM PST on Tuesday November 23.

If the race can be held it will retain its $10,000 to win first place prize, but the remainder of the purse will be adjusted to reflect the fact that the race will no longer be a USAC National Midget event.

It is the desire of all parties concerned in the running of this event that we are able to hold the event on Friday the 26th. Please watch for an announcement on venturaraceway.com, SCRA Fan.com and USACracing.com Tuesday for the final decision on the event being held.

It sounds like they are going to try to get the event in and a big thanks to Ventura Raceway and staff for the effort. The last race of the regular season (VRA Sprints) was cancelled after a little bit of rain the night before (at least it was light in Thousand Oaks), and I thought wtf. Went by the track on the way to Santa Barbara, and the whole parking lot was a mud bog. With the expected rain this weekend, it will take a big effort by the staff to get the grounds into shape. I guess the public could park on the cement and walk a little further, but I don't know what they could do the for the race trailors and race cars.

If they do hold the race, I sure hope the FANS SUPPORT IT. It would be cool if the Irwindale could help with the promotion as Naylor normally helps promote the Turkey Nite Grand Prix every year.

What I don't understand is why USAC keeps cancelling national midget show.If the Perris show was still on sat,a fri show would not be a problem.

It could be that since this was a national event, USAC national officials had to be in attendence. They probably already had their tickets to get home and to change them on Thanksgiving weekend is all but impossible.

However, that doesn't keep the national points teams from going home. Don't be surprised if a few stick around to cherry pick the prize from the beleagured Western States racers. Josh Ford and others out here may be willing to make their cars available to the right national drivers for this show.

The reason that Perris and Ventura on the 26th are non USAC National is that the current regime with USAC National (as screwed up as there are) are hell bent on Turkey Night being the finale to their points championship

Let's just say it rains on Turkey Night and they have to run it Friday Night are the National officials not going going to be there? I doubt it! I call BS on this excuse!

It would be great if they could move to Saturday nite which gives Ventura Raceway another day to take care of the track, parking lot, and other problems with the construction going on. More teams can make Saturday nite due to prior committments on Friday be it racing, air flights, etc. Only a thought. I know some cars cannot run Friday nite.
