LEVI JONES TAKES “OVAL NATIONALS” OPENER

Perris, CA……..AMSOIL USAC National Sprint Car point leader Levi Jones of Olney, Ill. won Thursday night’s 25-lap “Budweiser Oval Nationals” National and CRA preliminary feature at Perris Auto Speedway and in the process sliced Bryan Clauson’s National Drivers Championship point lead to just nine points! Jones caught Bud Kaeding in lapped traffic on lap 23 and led the final three laps in his Tony Stewart Racing STP/Bass Pro Shops Maxim/Kistler Chevy.

Kaeding finished second ahead of fast qualifier Matt Mitchell, Mike Spencer and Blake Fitzpatrick. Danny Sheridan led the first three laps but eventually finished 14th. Kaeding then led the next 19 laps before yielding to Jones. The “Budweiser Oval Nationals” continue Friday night, with another 25-lap preliminary feature on tap. Saturday night’s finale at the half-mile dirt oval is a 40-lapper.

I stayed up as long as I could to watch it (11:30 pm) but finally had to call it the night. With no racing going on here in the state tonight, Dirtvision from Charlotte and then this Paris show will fill up my Friday night just fine.

Thank you for the results, John, are you there?

I am looking for a big ole wind break and something big to keep me warm but my wife don't want to go with me - so I guess I will just layer myself like in the old Devils Bowl Winter Nationals days.......
