Do you think an open tire rule would work for the new King of the West series?
Signing Goodyear or Hoosier would help out the series with points fund & purses. However, would an open tire rule help attract more cars & drivers due to the teams being able to secure sponsorship from the tire companies? Plus, the the field fillers could use the tires they run at their local track?
On the flip side, would the open tire rule cost the teams more money due to the big money teams buying several brands of tires to find the faster tire for each track?
I am just a fan in stands .... what is your take on this? Utilize an open tire rule for a travelling series or sign with Goodyear or Hoosier???

since no one seems to want to jump in on this, i'll take a stab at it.
i think it would be nice to see teams out here be able to run the same tire every where they go. to me that helps to cut costs for teams who run different series and tracks, and also will help let teams who as you say might be "field fillers" participate. i don't care what tire is run, i just think having the opportunity to show up at a race and be able to run the tires you have in the trailer makes it more inviting. also, to be consistent, you need to be consistent in your set ups and how the car feels. if you keep changing that by changing the tire every place you go, you are always going to be searching. the top teams will spend the money they need to, no matter what, but it is not the top teams that make up the sport locally. it is the average racer who makes up the local racing. that average racer needs to feel they are not being run out of the sport due to rising costs. they also need to feel they have some chance at having a better than average night every now and then. we all hear how we need to try to control the cost of racing. so why would we choose to make our local racing more expensive and /or less inviting by having tires that you can only run at certain races with certain groups. that doesn't make sense. the question also comes up concerning what tire the 410 series should run because of what tire the outlaws run. who cares what the outlaws run? they are only here for a few races every year. if you are afraid of no cars running the outlaws because of having to buy a different tire, then what about having teams not run local races because of not wanting to by a different tire? there are a heck of lot more local races than outlaw races. why limit local participation, or contribute to higher local costs just for a series that comes to the area a few times a year? we need to think about what will work for us around here. if the new series wants to mandate a tire that is different from what any one else in the area is running, they need to think about how that will impact the racers that run their series as well as the other local racing. if they choose a tire that is different, how will that affect the ability of their teams that run other series to continue to support another series? how will it affect their series as far as attracting cars that may not run with them all the time. we have many teams who cross between running 410 and 360 motors as well as running different tracks. how will having to have a different tire for one series affect them?

Since it is a "series" I guess they can pick which tire.
BUT...if they run with the "circus" they gotta have GY.
What about tracks where they will be racing? What if "that track" has a tire rule...and it is not GY?
I will hold my breath for the new group and anxiously await their first schedule for 2011. I wish them success....I certainly don't think it can be any worse than what GSC was this past year.

chico has a hoosier tire rule, and there didn't seem to be a problem having the "circus" there running GY.

Actually, IMO, there was... a lot of locals and 360's stayed away this year.... possibly due to the WoO membership rule and the Goodyear tire requirement..... 60 or so cars this year as opposed to over 100 in some years past......
Chuck.....

It seems as though nobody attended the GSC banquet from this board, cause it was announced by Dan Simpson that the series was on Goodyears next year.

That is not the question he was responding to. The "circus" mandates teams run GY's, where Chico is a Hoosier track, except when the "Circus" came in town. Chico allowed the "circus" tire rules to trump its own track rules. Thats the question that was asked and answered, not if car counts were effected by that decision. Your response, in addition to teams having to run a 3rd night, was most likely the reason car counts were down.
