Just heard that the sale of GSC from Padgen/Handy to Dan Simpson is off.

Not sure whats going on just bits and pieces, but myself I'd consider it a challenge and move forward with it, we need Dan Simpson for the 410 series or someone else to step up, talking to people about next year and heard feed back on many good cars and drivers committing to the 410 series, so we hit a bump in the road get over it move on!

I hope this isn't true. It seemed the new group had big plans. If it is true, maybe it's time to resurrect NARC? In theory there are plenty of non-Handy dirt tracks around.

From posts on Facebook from Dean Mills and Randy frank, it appears that this is too true. Dean has posted that he's now staying in Indiana - and that the deal went south. Which is just too bad....
As far as non-Handy tracks, it won't matter, IMO. There aren't enough 410's in NorCal to put together a good traveling show. Promoters won't book a show that only gets 15 -20 cars. Most folks won't travel to see 15 or 20 cars. And since there's no purse increase over the past 5 or 10 years, very few new 410 cars are stepping up to join the fray. Only locals will run SDS, and Handy could easily turn that into a 360 weekly program - and probably get a few more cars.....but the loss of 410's in NorCal will be sad.......

Let's not jump to conclusions. Things always have a way to work themselves out.
I know we have all "heard things" but lets try and keep speculation down.

".....but the loss of 410's in NorCal will be sad......." Really? How is that? The saddest thing is that for both the 360's and the 410's there is an entrenched opposition to what has worked in so many other places which is ASCS. If you can't increase the purse or you can't decrease the cost what's the point? This applies to both 360's and 410's in California. I wouldn't be able to justify the cost of racing in either of these classes in California even if I had unlimited funds but that might just be because I've moved on in my life for the most part......

Scott - while you may be right, I have to agree with threadkiller. But 410's have been dying just about everywhere for a while now. In NorCal, they've really taken a dump since the abandonment of NARC by the promoters. Well, at least the decline has coincided with that occurrence. It's now just as expensive to run a 360 as a 410 was 3 or 4 years ago., but purses haven't kept up.
And it's not just a NorCal issues, either. The 410 car counts are down at Williams Grove, Knoxville, and almost every other 410 track in the country. I think that the only area showing any growth or stability is the FAST group in Northern Ohio. They've put together a two track series with some serious sponsor backing to help the teams offset the ridiculously high costs associated with a 410.
Now, do teams rally need a 40' trailer to haul a sprint car to the track for a weekend show? Probably not. Tieing up $100K in the rig makes little sense to me. Do they really need $40K motors? Probably not. My point is that racers have always spent to their last $$$ and then some. And keeping up with the "Jones'" seems to be the case more often than not these days. It seems to me that the only people making money these days are the guys making and/or selling stuff to the racers......

Not to take this to far off the subject, your comment about guys making money selling or making parts from racers and getting rich doing so, is way off base, i've been doing this for 10 plus years as a retailer and can tell you first hand that the margins on race parts is very slim. Whatever money we do make is hard earned. You should hang your ass out there with 250k to 300k in inventory and try to sell it at a profit. Good luck with that. Ned Spath NorCal Performance Chico Ca.

Thin skinned? Read my original response again - nowhere did I say that the parts guys wer getting rich. I said that they were making money; the teams, on the other hand, for the most part, do not make money. How can they when they race for $150-200 last place money? Most teams don't make a profit - or even come close to breaking even.
It's kind of like owning a boat - it's a hole in the water that you keep throwing money into!
I applaud your efforts to run a race parts business - but like any other business, if it doesn't make economic sense(turn a profit - especially after interest costs), then it's time to do something else.

I knew this was too good to be true .... just like Dan was running Destiney Hayes full time in WoO a few years ago. After his announcement, she never raced again. I hope this isn't the same case for GSC & 410's in NorCal.
