I agree that the youngsters shouldnt be punished because of politics. There is one way to accomplish both tasks...........

Take them on a road trip..........

The Tulsa State Fair 9/30-10/10 wink

The Oklahoma State Fair this year is no more than a Carnival set up in the Wal-Mart parking lot.

I havent been to the fair since the last race they had during it......

just a matter of principle - I wont support it.

That - and I still havent been to the fairgrounds since Championship Sunday last year. I have seen it from 44 and notice the absence of the grandstand - but I have never and will not ever go in that vicinity again, I want to remember it as it was. I've read everything every one of you said, looked at the pictures, but ultimately it was talking to my father and hearing what he had to say about his visit a few weeks back......I just wont ever go back in the entire area. That whole square mile section can completely kiss my ass.

Doesn't matter what ever goes on there. Anything short of a rockin' racetrack there and I have no use for the place unless I really need to go to the bathroom, as I would gladly defacate in inconvenient locations on the premises.

As for folks debating whether or not to go this year - there is hardly anything to see there that you can't see in some fashion, usually better, somewhere else. Like Warren said - even Tulsa has Disney on Ice. I see it as a matter of principle. Funny enough - the last time I went to the fair - it was my nephew's first time to the fair - and first time to a dirt track event. thats ironic. My niece is 3 right now - and I would drive to Tulsa for disney or just go to six flags for an even better time.

But thats just me. I cant in good faith ever attend another event there again - but thats easy for me to say - I havent been to it in 6-8 years.

I am no one to judge, in any way, how a father/mother chooses to spend their fun times with their little ones. Thats just not my place to judge - or even have an opinion. What others do is their business, i wont judge it to be right or wrong. BUT - for me to ever go back to the fair they need to do one of 2 things.

1. put a track back at the fairgrounds
2. put a big giant blue wall up that faces east to may and west to the sunset.

yep.

I haven't gone the that sad state of a fair for three years now -- and I told my son earlier this year why we weren't going this year or any other year -- in fact we went to Frontier City yesterday (also a shell of its former self - but that's another rant). That overgrown county fair is a joke ... and frankly in my humble opinion the speedway has basically been a hollow shell of its former self since Bud Carson passed.... It started its slow death spiral when Hotz took over from Bud and then Lanny butchered the place beyond recognition and I had rarely gone since then - only for the TNT or occasional ASCS show. It still hurts to pass by on 44 and not see the grandstand (my son and I both flipped off the fair as we passed by today) -- but in all honesty Fairgrounds Speedway really died many years ago.

Anyone care to guess what won the blue ribbon in the Antique Show, "Memories of the State Fair" category? A chunk of the grandstand! Danny Swick (who else?) entered a broken brick with a list of some of the performers and events that had thrilled spectators over the years. I didn't even think they'd let it in or display it, but apparently the judges don't share SF management's enthusiasm for parking lots. They aren't connected to the Fair, by the way. Hope none of them lose their unpaid positions next year. wink
