FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
USAC WEST COAST 360 SPRINT CAR SERIES

#21 Peter Murphy (Special Paint Scheme For Breast Cancer Research & Awareness)

MURPHY LEADS BREAST CANCER RESEARCH AND AWARENESS DRIVE AT SANTA MARIA
By Lance Jennings

FRESNO, CA – SEPTEMBER 16, 2010… Veteran driver Peter Murphy of Clovis has teamed up with the Tachi Palace Hotel & Casino and the Susan G. Komen Foundation to help fight breast cancer. Murphy is encouraging support from fellow racers and fans this Saturday night, September 18th, at the Santa Maria Speedway with a drive to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer research.

Murphy, who will be driving the #11 Buster & Ziggy Enterprise USAC West Coast 360 Sprint Car, welcomes race fans to make donations at the Tachi Hotel & Casino booth. Support is greatly appreciated as ribbons and t-shirts will be available for a $5 contribution. The #21 Tarlton & Son Inc. Sprint Car featuring a pink breast cancer awareness paint scheme will be on display later in the program.

Donors are encouraged to honor those affected by breast cancer to leave their names with booth attendants. In recognition, Peter will have special replica ribbons made with the names of donors and honorees. The ribbons will be placed on the pink Tarlton & Son Inc. #21 Sprint Car that Murphy will drive at Tulare's "Sprinting for the Cure" race on October 2nd.

Founded in 1982, the Susan G. Komen Foundation has become the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists. With the help of affiliates, corporate partners, staff, and individual donors, the foundation has reached people in more than 200 countries and helped to save over 2.5 million breast cancer survivors. More work and support is needed to help find a cure. It is estimated that close to 11 million people are diagnosed with cancer every year worldwide.

For more information on the Susan G. Komen Foundation, please visit www.komen.org.

Joining the USAC West Coast 360 Sprint Cars will be the West Coast Street Stocks, MMI Hobby Stocks, and Toste Mini-Stocks. The Front Gates will open at 4:00pm, Time Trials will start at 5:00pm, with Racing to follow at 6:00pm. For event information, please visit www.racesantamariaspeedway.com or call (805) 922-2232.

I just want to say that I think that it is great that this team is doing this . The thing that bothers me is why must cancer be put into certain categories when it comes to raising funds and awareness ?? I never understood that . To me Cancer is cancer no matter what part of the body it attacks . Why can't we just say its going to be cancer awareness fund raiser ? I know all to well the effects that cancer can have on a person and its family . I lost my mother to lung cancer over a year ago and it was very painful to watch her go Thru what she went Thru . I donate when ever I can to any type of cancer research but I also let them know that I wish we could just put cancer in to one categories when it comes to raising funds and awareness . I know that there are different treatments for different cancers & that there are different types but to me its all one disease . Please don't beat me up over this its just my opinion and how I feel on this topic . Like I said I watched my mother go Thru hell with this horrible disease and even after the doctors told her that she was going to die from this and that there was no more that they could do for her she still wanted to go for the treatments . I asked her why she still wanted to do this and she looked at me and said that if I can help one person beat this horrible disease then it was all worth it and she continued till she was just to exhausted and weak to do it anymore. Again this is just my opinion and how I feel about Cancer awareness . Thanks to all that do there part in helping find cures for cancer ..

I wonder why the government spends billions in Iraq and Afghanistan - when that money could be used to find a cure for this awful disease that has affected every American in one way or another.

I wish I knew where he got the info from but, Radio Talk show host Bubba The Love Sponge who is a huge racing fan (donated Hoosier tires to the USAC teams that went to Fla. early this year) did a story about charity org's. and the percentage of fund's that actually went to research and what money's went to salaries for the worker's. The Susan G. Komen foundation was among the worst when it came to actual dollars passed on to research. That is such a terrible thing to think about if this is absolutley true. I have been part of a group of friend's that donate's whatever we can to a friend who has cancer and can use (i.e. gas card's,gum, pajama's, etc) little thing's to help ease with chemo treatment's. She is so greatful for this little bit of help that she was to proud to ask for. We get joy in knowing that what we can help with actually goes to help out a loved one in return
