What is the highest horsepower coming from a legal 11:1 flat top, flat tappet engine for the midwest 305 rules?

We get 450-475 HP @ 5700 - 7700 rpm out of ours on the Dyno...

The last Knoxville 305 I built made 545 on the dyno. I think the Mid-West 305 rules were similar to Knoxville's rules two years ago.

Knoxville can run Dry Sumps...Mid-West 305 are wet sumps only. Most all other engine rules are the same.

If that was the one Brady ran at LOS last year that was one bad fast 305!

So rumors of 580-600 are false?

Unless they have the dyno sheets to prove it I would say thats crap. The highest numbers should be 525-550 if its legal. The 475hp that was posted on here almost sounds like a racesaver motor but world product heads should be close to the same.

How much would someone pay for a "legal" I mean checked by the tack rules by an official and it had 620hp and yet be legal.

Mr. "Wesmar" and anyone else that knows a thing about motors will tell you that if you take the same motor to 5 different dynos you will get 5 different sets of numbers.

HP numbers to me don't matter a whole lot. People say all kinds of crazy numbers. Rational car owners develop a relationship with engine builders more than read ads in Speed Sport or wherever. They watch the motors that blow up every other night, they watch what the strong cars run (although they know that the motor isn't the only reason a car runs up front) and talk to people that run that motor about the service level from the builder.

Point being... lots of things to focus on rather than quoted hp. Crazy high hp quotes are usually just that: crazy.

I know a thing or two about engines and let me tell you this.... It's all about male ego without it we wouldnt be here its all about who hangs lower, guys with money go to their engine builder saying give me the most HP you can build money is not an object. "POINT BEING" this message was aimed toward guys who have the money to spend and are chasing the numbers so they can go out with their friends and say, o ya I have this much HP and man I paid this much for it and no one can catch it. You have to remember there are still men with an ego and they like to show it, and money is the best way to. I'm say what is 620-630 legal Hp worth to the man who wants it?

I wasn't mocking you, MN, quite the contrary. I liked the topic & found it interesting. I made a comment about the broad range of numbers. Wesmar has always been realistic on numbers; I'd consider his words.

Sorry for the bold some guy in texas, I am just trying to see about this subject, I have heard that Ray Evernham paid 21,000 for his 305 and according to the average it had to be between 530-560 maybe more if it is true I have no idea it's none of my business, but I would really like to see how far someone can push this 305 to 630 so its 2hp per CI. On an average high a good ASCS motor "legal" maybe has 700, basic math 700/360=1.944. To me it would be awesome to see a flat top, flat tappet, 11:1 compression ratio with a 2 3/16 injection with a wet sump make that is it impossible? No but god forbid I bring it up but, Nascar has 840-870 with out restrictors and with I have no idea but they make a huge 2.37 hp per CI and there flat tappet to! A 900hp 410 has a 2.195hp per CI now I know im probaly pushing this subject to far but I want to see some input and see what folks have to say about this and I know there will be some who think im just plain retarded for doing this but thats their cup of tea.

It's my understanding that there is a cheater roller cam available "out there" that has a flat tappet for the last lobe to "fool" bore scope inspections. How much power would one of those add?

Even if i knew where or how to get a cheater roller cam I wouldnt like I said I want the tech inspector to be there before if goes together to make all his measurements. 100% legal no rollers, no key way lifters, no nitro, no illegal stuff all motor and no bull s***t.

mnmatt, I agree with you. The chassis set up that works for the track and a good driver = winning. The engine is also very important, but it's not EVERYTHING! We won 8 features in 13 starts with our little 475HP motor. Reliability is very important as well.

I believe done right and taken care of just like anything else it will last just as long. There is really only a few different numbers and ratios changed that could possibly make that 2HP per CI mark. I have seen enough races, that to me it seems like who starts up front stays there, and at knoxville it holds very true I believe, yes there are a few guys who can drive to the front but look what they have in their motor and car I bet their motor isn't cheap. I think 630hp 305 would turn some heads. I do believe that the 305 class has gotten out of hand with the prices but it's never gonna come back down its turned into every other class money money money so why not build something to kick everyone else's a** while being legal.
