Anyone know when the flag rules changed from what is printed in the photo of the Program below?
Green = Clear Track, Race!
Yellow = Caution Race with caution, but hold your position!
Yellow and Green = Continue to race and pass, but with caution.
None of these state to slow down and reform in the position the vehicles were running in the last completed lap prior to the Caution. Requiring a ten minute delay while track workers and scorekeepers attempt to re-construct the running order and try to get the drivers back in the same order by using signs, sign language, radios or whatever means they may have.
By continuing under caution and holding positoin, like it was done for years, the running order is not as big of an issue. And if some knuckle head decides to pass under caution it is very easy to penalize them on paper at the end of the race.
Once the incident is cleared they go back to green flag racing. Seems I have seen this done at the other races when they use the infield to re-direct the drivers while keeping the cars running and inline.
Just wondering where that idea of going back to the last completed lap, reline and restart following a caution came from and when it took effect, anyone know? Sounds lik the Red Flag rule and restart got mixed up with the caution rule somehow.
