Dycus NCRA Modified Cowtown Master
FOR IMMEDITATE RELEASE – Kennedale, Texas – 08/14/10 - Triston Dycus became the first repeat winner on the 2010 race season as he took the lead on lap four and was never headed as he took home the O'Reilly/NCRA modified south division feature finale Saturday night in the series third and final appearance of the season at Cowtown Speedway in Kennedale, Texas.
Jim Knight and series regular Matt French started on the front row for the twenty-five lap feature but it was third starting Jarod Webb who caught both drivers heading down the back stretch and take the lead at the start.
Only one lap was completed before the first of two cautions fell when Clyde Dunn, Jr., George White, Troy Taylor and Russell White all got together in turn four.
On the restart, Webb set the pace while behind him, fifth starting Dycus got around French for the runner up position and set his sights on the leader. Dycus, running the top of the quarter mile clay oval, quickly caught Webb and with the pair racing side by side down the backstretch, drove around the leader in between turns three and four to take the lead on lap four.
One lap later the final caution of the night would fall when George White came to a stop at the top of turn four with a flat tire.
The final restart saw Dycus, aboard the Taylor Made Counter Tops/Tony's D&D Auto Parts/DRS sponsored Willie Kraft chassis, used his Wells Racing Engine powered car to pull away from the field and quickly open an eight car length lead.
With Dycus keeping a six to ten car length distance over Webb at the races midway point, Kevin Clement had worked his way up from his fourteenth starting position and into the third position.
It looked as though the outcome of the race would change on lap fourteen when the leader began approaching lapped traffic. This allowed to get within three car lengths of the leader with just ten laps to go, but Dycus worked the lapped cars to perfection and would go on the rest of the distance unchallenged to become the first repeat winner on the O'Reilly/NCRA modified south division trail in the seven events held thus far.
"I really thought the bottom was going to be the place to be tonight," said Dycus."I found enough on the top up there after that restart and we got a good run on him (Webb) and got by him. You don't let up on somebody like Jarod so we pushed it as hard as we could. The lapped cars gave us just a little problem tonight but it wasn't bad."
Webb would finish six car lengths behind for second while Clements's hard charge ended with a third place finish. Fourth starting Glen Leauschner finished fourth with Trevor Lane rounding out the top five.
The three heat races for the thirty car field were won by Knight, French and Webb with Taylor and Smith taking home the two, ten lap "B" features.
The next event for the O'Reilly/NCRA modified south division will be held on Saturday night, September 25, with their first ever appearance on the big fairgrounds half mile at Thunderbird Speedway in Muskogee, Oklahoma.
