I wanted to see how many days there were horse show events on the grounds of the fairgrounds. I went to the fairgrounds website and look at the calender of events. I took from today to the same day next year. I counted to the number of days races were being held at the grandstands from last years schedule taking the Aug 7 date and saying we ran this year to today.
66 horse show dates
31 racing dates

I'm looking forward to the day when it's ZERO horse events! I'm starting to question why the City should even be in the fairgrounds/horse show business. If they can't help motor racing, why should they be helping any other sports or competitions?
The horse people didn't stick up for racers and race fans when it counted. (Nor did Toyota or the car dealers, for that matter) The horse people got their little "Bennett-istas" in charge and froze out anyone who had a clue about dirt track racing.
Then, the horse people got their expensive barn renovations and sat back as the Grandstand got a date with the wrecking ball.
Remember the Speedway was originally designed as a dual use motorsports & horse racing facility. The horse people could have saved it with a "Dover" plan (updating it for horse racing and motorsports) But they didn't. They didn't care.
