Wakeeney was alright. Only 32 cars for $1000 to win but a couple of the IMCA big dogs were there. David Murry (IMCA national modified points leader) was freaking fast.
I was hoping the top would come in like I rememeber it did my last two visits to the fairgrounds track back in late 90's when I done the stories for the NCRA and All Star Circuit of champions "Thunder Through the Plains" tour. It was dusty (as a dirt track should be) and turned dry slick but the top just wasn't run much.
There were 32 IMCA modifieds, 14 IMCA hobby stocks and 14 IMCA northern sport mods and 7 IMCA stock cars. Not a bad show for a Monday night.
Shockingly, nobody complained about the dust as they brougth goggles and sat there an enjoyed the show. The hobby stock winner spun out the leader on the backstretch and while the officials were conversing while he was in victory lane, he was told he was docked two spots for that move and he didn't throw a fit and act like an idiot. The guy who got spun out of a win didn't go seek him out and ram his car or want ot start a fight. He just left it alone. And only a ten minute intermission as they knew the fans had to go to work the next morning.
Not use to seeing that type of mentality.....
