Ascot Park was, is now and always will be dear to my heart. I dont mean to be brunt here, but those shirts aren't very appealing. If you were to have a design that had a more appealing look, I'd be all out to buy some.

Outside of the name on the shirt, I don't see anything that relates to ASCOT.

I as probably most people would rather have the Blue "Oval" logo as the shirt art. My most visual memory of Ascot besides the TT jump was the Ascot billboard in turns 1-2

This T-shirt is an example of Ascot Park Gardena during the 1960s (first used in 1959). Ascot had a billboard in turn-4 during the decade of the 1960s that looked like this. Ascot also used the image in the programs and advertising during the 1960s. This logo was used up to 1972 when the blue oval was first used.

That other track on Vermont was Carrell Speedway, 1946-1954. I had an image but lost it on my old hard drive. I make another soon and post. The Carrell Speedway logo was very cool.

I googled it and found this........
The racetrack was located along Soto Street from Valley Blvd. to Multnomah St. Now Multnomah Elementary School and a housing tract is built on top the racetrack

When I was a kid I used to watch the "jalopy" races on KTLA and listen to Dick Lane screaming' "woooa Nellie!" over something Termite Snider just did to Art Atkison. I think those telecasts came from Western Speedway. Was that in Gardena also?

Yes, Western Speedway (also known as Gardena Stadium up to 1959) was in Gardena at 139th Street and Western Avenue from 1954 thru 1964. The 1/4 mile dirt track was lengthened to a 1/3 mile dirt track in 1958. The way to tell in photos is: if the race cars are parked in the infield, thats the 1/3 mile track.

Tom, was there enough fan base to support two dirt tracks so close to each other? I understand it was a different era but I'm guessing they were only a few blocks apart. How did that work? Was Westen more of a jalopy venue?

Western Speedway was the Sunday afternoon jalopy track from 1954 thru 1963 when the CJA decided the track was too run down to stay with so they moved to Ascot. The final year of Western was sad because several attempts were made to fix it up, including giving it an ultra-high banking, perhaps 20 degrees. Several groups raced there including stock cars, figure-8s, and CRA sprints.
