HUMBOLDT
/ MID-AMERICA FEATURED IN OCRS DOUBLE HEADER WEEKEND
Tulsa, Oklahoma
(July 26, 2010) – The Oil
Capital Racing Series winged sprint cars are set for another
doubleheader
weekend featuring the Humboldt Speedway
in Humboldt, Kansas
on Friday July 30 and the Mid-America Speedway
in
South Coffeyville, Oklahoma on Saturday July 31.
Humboldt
Speedway, celebrating their 20th anniversary season in
2010, hosted
their first ever OCRS event on May 21 where Moore’s Whit
Gastineau picked up the first of his three victories thus far
in the 2010 OCRS campaign. Gastineau won that third feature just last Saturday
night at the clay oval of the West Siloam
Speedway. OCRS drivers all had high
praises for the Humboldt
facility during the May tour stop and they have been
anxiously awaiting the return visit. Track promoters Ron /
Rhenda Whitworth have produced a great facility for racers
and race fans alike with their high-banked 3/8 mile dirt tack.

One of the series’ favorite venues, the “Speedplant”
of the Mid-America Speedway will be
hosting their third
OCRS event of the season. Operated by the ‘General’,
Kenny Gariss, the Speedplant has
produced enhanced racing action since General
Gariss re-worked the 3/10 mile clay racing surface in 2009. Rafe Essary (who sits second in OCRS
points) took the victory the last time OCRS sprinters blitzed around the
Speedplant
back on June 19. During the Memorial Day holiday visit; it was Travis “Hollywood” Jenkins conquering
the stout field of competitors for his first triumph of the season. In
twelve
OCRS conducted events at the Speedplant, OCRS has sent eight different
winners
to victory lane. A stat that many tracks would crave to have on their
resume.
Ask the locals in the area where the Saturday night action is and they
will all
direct you to the “Speedplant”.

OCRS NOTES
Stretching Out: In the
past two weeks, two time defending
champion
and current point leader, Jamie Passmore,
has extended his point lead for the 2010 OCRS title from 81 markers to
147 over
his toughest competitor and close friend, Rafe
Essary.
Don’t
Look Over Your Shoulder: Essary
is only 26 points ahead of previous OCRS champion, Mike
Goodman for the second spot in the standings.
Freeway
Tie Up: Travis “Hollywood Jenkins,
Fred Mattox, Tim Kent, Whit Gastineau,
Shayla Waddell and Danny Smith
are all in positions fourth – ninth respectively. These entire groups of
racers
are only separated by 61 points! In this traffic jam, anywhere from zero
to all
six positions could change at a single event!
Top Ten Battle: There is
also a good fight to be in the
top ten. Kyle Clark holds that spot going into the weekend double
header
with 526 points. Matt Sherrell (523) and Brady Demeree
(520) are each
looking to knock off Clark for top ten bragging rights. Clark earned his
spot with a career best finish of second at West Siloam Speedway
last
Saturday.
Rookie Of The Year War: After
leading the
chase for the 2010 OCRS R.O.Y. all season, Terry Easum was just
passed
over by Brady Demeree last Saturday (520-487). The winner of this
contest not only gets a trophy at the season ending banquet, but a new
set of cylinder heads from Brodix Cylinder Heads will be an added
bonus
to the driver who comes out on top of this independent race.
Go Beau Go: While brother
Whit grabs most of the headlines in the
racing family, Beau Gastineau won his first heat race last
Saturday in
what has been a long and trying year for the young driver. Look for
continued improvement from “Lil G”.
Welcome Back:
Broken Arrow’s Jonathan Beason made his first return to OCRS
competition
in 2010 last Saturday night. Beason doesn’t seem to need any practice
as he brought the #36 Toro special home to a solid fourth place finish.
Just Visiting: 2010 ASCS
Sooner Region point leader, Sean
McClelland, drove the Tim O’Toole number 15x at West Siloam.
Sean did
Timmy well by earning a sixth place finish in his only OCRS start of
2010. Quiet As A Mouse: Drumright’s Fred
“Mickey”
Mattox barely squeaks when he roams the pit area each and every
night.
However, with consistency and determination, this young second
generation racer finds himself fifth in the points chase and looking to
climb higher.
