Here is a heads up - the best place to eat in Knoxville is the CASA GRANDE just off the square behind Wells Fargo bank. AWESOME food and the most incredible margaritas you'll ever have, frozen or Texas style. There is something for everyone on their menu, so if you don't like spicey food (which I don't) you can still have a great meal. The service has always been great, and they have a very nice atmosphere. Everyone we have told about the Casa Grande has loved it. Never heard a complaint from anyone. For a really good deli style sandwich, try the Hometown Meats on Robinson Street right off the square. They also have great meats for grilling at your campsite. Oh yeah, there is a new "sit down" Chinese place on the square. Personal opinion, don't bother. The sauces on the food are way salty. Lo mein noodles not cooked enough, etc... The old stand-by Chinese buffet on the square will cover any craving for lo mein, egg drop soup, and the like. There is plenty of stuff to eat in Knoxville that's for sure. For a day trip you can always go to Pella and try the different foods there. Bring $$$ and you'll never run out of places to try.

Swamp Fox is also an awesome restaurant in downtown Knoxville. The fried green beans are so yummy and the food is consistently good.

We needed to find a new place last year since Tasos was closed and we found Swamp Fox.. I think we ate there 3 times last year during the nationals.. I would suggest Swamp Fox to anyone!

If your eating around the track there are several very good vendors every year. The best BBQ meal is Capt's set up at the quanset building by the RR tracks. The Cyclone beans are something you've got to try. You'll definately get your belly full.

Tasos has reopened and doing well, there is also a good chinese across the square called Dengs (where the old Tasos used to be) but El Casa Grande is also great !
where the old subway was near the Hall of fame is now some kind of BBQ joint, and the old favorite.... Mr.C's....
theres plenty of good food in Knoxville....

Taso's is open again but has move to the SW side of the square. Tasos and Swamp Fox are both top notch. Wacko's ,east of town, is also a good place to eat and play a little sand volleyball (or just watch).

There was a time when I hailed Taso's as the best pizza in the country and I've been around most of it. There are probably a dozen people in this forum who have picked me up one and brought it to my booth who may act as witnesses if they like also. Things started to change and their prices went up a whole bunch and I haven't been to the new one, but for a time they were unbeatable. Take It Easy...
PS Udders where you cook your own steak is top notch also...

Live in Knoxville and I wouldn't go to Casa Grande for a free meal. I have tried it 4-5 times and was disapointed every time. I lived in Arizona for 39 years so I enjoy real Mexican food. Have had more than one person here tell me they just love Mexican food and go to Taco Bell all the time! El Charro Mexican in Pella is fantastic, including the Marguaritas. The new BBQ place is called Rib Shack where the Subway used to be and it is real good and also reasonable. JMO
My wife told me if I went to one more Sprint Car race
she would leave me.................I'm sure gonna miss
that ol' gal.

Based upon what "normally transpires" during the Nationals, I am very surprised food is being discussed!

It is a margarita with orange juice.
I did enjoy the Texas Longhorn football humor in that. LOL

Being the Nationals, the discussion should quickly turn to beer. Of course Dingus will come up. But for those that enjoy a robust beer, during my last trip to Knoxville I discovered a gem - downtown on Main Street there is a micro-brewery call Peace Tree Brewing and they serve up some very good brews. If you enjoy a good Ale or Porter and the likes, you will definitely want to stop in there for a fresh draft.

When are you going to make the trip back again, Leon?
Doubt I will ever attend again. I spent my time....and....all my money.. so time to let the "younguns" do it.
I miss the people more than I miss the racing. I guess that says something about my present mental state! Ha
Dave, thanks for asking and I hope you have a good, safe time!

If your at the track, Kin Folks Bar-B-Cue at the West end of the Grandstands is really good! I believe they are accessible from under the grandstands and also from outside the grandstand
