Could this be at the Springfield Mile with an animal from the Fair?

Per info and photos in Dick Wallen's book "Roar From the Sixties"--DuQuoin, Illinois--Sept. 1, 1969.

Gotta be Du Quoin, you can see the horse racing pole in the background. Great picture! What was the lion for? I remember hearing about AJ having a tiger tail on the tank of his car back in the 60's. It was meant to be an advertisement for Exxon I think.

Petey,
Is DuQuion ,IL. Duquion ,IL State Fair. That is the real deal. Back in the day there was in fact a circus there and this lion got lose! Wouldn't ya know AJ was the one the lion decided to start chasing.. Pretty cool beans,,huh? Iif ya never been to Duquion ,Il track it is probably one of the coolest, neatest old school tracks you'd ever visit. There is a very neat old Coca-Cola building on the grounds,as well as a lake in the center of the track.. Looks like something out of Back to the Future..
