FOCUS RACING IN CALIFORNIA, NORTH CAROLINA SATURDAY; SKOGLUND 1ST AT LAS VEGAS; RAIN FORCES CALLAWAY POSTPONEMENT
USAC Ford Focus Midget racing is slated in Ventura, Calif. and Kenly, N.C. Saturday. The race at Southern National Raceway Park in Kenly kicks off the Carolina Richard Petty Driving Experience Series, which suffered a rainout last Saturday at Callaway, Va. USAC and track officials are discussing a possible rescheduling of the race at Franklin County Speedway.
Defending USAC California Pavement Ford Focus Champion Tim Skoglund of Fresno, Calif. won Saturday’s 30-lap race at the Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Nevada. Driving the Western Speed entry, Skoglund took the lead on lap seven and led the rest of the way to beat fast qualifier Nic Faas, Caitlin Shaw, Daniel Adler and Beau DeBard. Skoglund has won both 2007 California pavement races and leads the series standings going into an April 28 race at Lucas Oil I-10 Speedway in Blythe, Calif.
Faas, who was the fastest Las Vegas qualifier, not only leads the California Dirt Focus Series to this Saturday’s race at Ventura (Calif.) Raceway, he also is the early leader in the brand-new Utah Developmental Ford Focus Series, which debuted as part of the Las Vegas event and now prepares for an April 28 race at Salt Lake City. A 30-lap feature is on tap at Ventura’s 1/5-mile dirt oval this Saturday.
