Arlington Raceway and GRP Motorsports Team Up for July 5 IMCA Sprint Car Special
By: Greg Parent (6-29-10)
In conjunction with Arlington Raceway and GRP Motorsports, sprint car racers and fans will certainly want to plan to attend a special evening of racing at the Arlington Raceway on Monday night July 5. The IMCA sprint cars will be racing for an increased purse during Chuck's Body Shop, Pro-Graphix, and Tobacco Free Youth Night. With extra money added to the sprint car feature purse from Arlington Raceway and GRP Motorsports, the winner of the IMCA sprint car feature will earn $1,000. The runner-up will collect $700 with third taking home $500. Fourth place through sixth place will pay $300, $200, and $150. It will be $125 to start the sprint car feature.
Commenting on the upcoming July 5 special, Greg Parent of GRP Motorsports indicated his interest to become involved. "With the UMSS and IMCA affiliation this year, I wanted to also help out at a regular Arlington IMCA race night. The July 5 special gave me a great opportunity to help add some additional money to the purse. I look forward to closing out my holiday weekend racing at Arlington Raceway on Monday night July 5." With the number of rainouts so far this season, many area 360 sprint car drivers should be looking for an extra night to race, and the July 5 IMCA sprint car special will certainly give them that opportunity with some added money in place.
The IMCA sprint car portion of the program will use the draw/redraw system to line up their heat races and feature event in order to give all drivers a fair chance at qualifying. Stated current Arlington Raceway sprint car front runner Chris Graf, "This should help bring in some extra cars knowing they have the same chance as the Arlington regulars do with the draw/redraw in place. I'm looking forward to racing against a strong field of cars on Monday night July 5."
Brett Allen of the Arlington Raceway is seeking additional sponsors to add to the payoff for this special event in order to help boost the middle finishing positions. If anyone is interested, please contact Brett Allen at [email protected] or by phone at 507-380-3464. Brett Allen commented, "We wanted the IMCA sprint car special on the holiday evening of July 5 to pay well, and with help from GRP Motorsports the top positions are strong. Some additional support for the middle finishing positions would be greatly appreciated."
All of our other classes will also be in action (including karts and compacts). Pit gates open at 2:00 pm, the grandstand opens at 2:30, and racing action is slated to get underway at 5:00. With our typical well-run program, the racing should be over at a decent time, allowing drivers and fans to travel back home to close out the long Fourth of July weekend. Make plans now to be at the Arlington Raceway during not only July 5 but also July 3 for the NAPA Fireworks Spectacular Night.

Hey Ginelmore it is just a IMCA Arlington Raceway make-up show with bonus money for the sprint car class. I am not really sure how many cars will show up, High hopes tho. And there will be a full slate of classes that night also. The grandstands should be the same as a regular night which is $10 I think.

I visited with several drivers last Friday night at the UMSS Kopellah race and again with some up at the WoO show in Brainerd on Saturday night. Brad Barickman, Dave Becker and Leigh Thomas indicated they were planning to be there on Monday. Cody Hahn was thinking about heading down, but he would not make a final decision until Monday. A couple other drivers were on the fence, so I will not make mention of them just in case they decided not to attend and then fans might say something like you said they would be there. In any case, we should have a decent field of cars battling for the $1,000 top prize money for the IMCA sprints at Arlington on Monday night. To the best of my knowledge, it is the only sprint car show in the area, so come on out and join in on the fun at Arlington Monday July 5. The other weekly classes will also be on the program.

It will run on Sat. July 31- As I understand the challenge will pick up where it left off on the Monday July 5th special where it left off with 8 laps completed before the rain came- There will be a complete regular show along with it.See you at the races-Pat
