Mark Dobmeier - Outlaw Weekend at River Cities
With many Season Championships and feature wins at the
home track of River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, ND,
Lunstra/Dobmeier Motorsports always looks forward to when the World
of Outlaws come to town. With two wins and four top three
finishes so far this year on the fast 4/10ths mile, a competitive run
against the Outlaws is certainly something the team expects and is
very capable of doing.
The double header was pushed forward a day due to rain
on Friday, in which Dobmeier had to decide whether or not to stay or
travel to Knoxville and Huset’s to keep in the points battles.
But, after consideration, the team decided to stay and race with the
Outlaws for the attempt of their first win against the cream of the
crop at their home track.
For the first night of the World of Outlaw double
header, Dobmeier qualified 12th on the board out of the 38
drivers and then started on the outside pole of the heat race to
finish third. “The car was working well,” explains the veteran
River Cities driver, “We had a lot of things right, but unfortunately
lost the number two spot to finish third.”
Dobmeier lined up on the inside of the eighth row in the
Senske and Son Right Choice Electric #13, and raced up to 13th
until some mud got in the wheel and created a huge vibration.
“The track fooled us a little bit on Saturday,” says Mark.
“Moisture usually does not come back throughout the night, but before
the feature, the track went from heavy to ‘suck your shoes off
sticky’. When the mud got in our wheels, we weren’t really going
anywhere so I pulled off and called it a night.”
The following night, Dobmeier didn’t have the qualifying
run as expected as he put a 22nd fast time on the
board. “We were just too loose in our qualifying run,” explains
Mark. “We tightened up the car for the heat and were fast…we
came from 6th in the heat to finish third.”
Dobmeier started 21st for the main event and
drove the Senske and Son Right Choice Electric #13 all the way up to
the 12th position, overtaking 9 cars. “The guys had
the car working great,” exclaims Dobmeier. “We just needed a
better qualifying run tonight so we could have started further
towards the front. All in all it was a decent weekend, we
learned a few things and we’ll be that much more prepared for next
time. We are very capable of winning against these guys, so
with a little homework and good luck, we’ll be on top.”
