Hey guys, just thought I would pass along in case any of ya'll don't know, the Value Place in Pleasant Hill (East of Des Moines) has rooms available for check-in on August 7th and checkout August 14th for as low as $189 for the week. I stayed there last year and its not a Holiday Inn but for no longer than I was there (just long enough to catch a shower, some sleep, and head to the track again the next day) it was more than fine. And the drive is really not bad at all, good new highway all the way.

It also puts you pretty close to the Iowa Fair, Bass Pro, and Casino

We had given up hope that we could find accomodations for the 50th running of the Knoxville Nationals and then we saw your helpful info about the Value Place in Pleasant Hills,IA so decided to give it a try.We are thrilled to be hooking up with an old friend from Sydney for the big event.Peter Physick just called and we can't believe our good fortune.

We were there for the first one when Bud qualified 6th fast ( and then broke a spindle ) and it seemed only proper that we be there for this one.

Thanks for the help.

Can't say definitively yet but we have one of these motels about 10 miles up the road and will check it out soon. But as we all know"The proof of the pudding is in the eating" so will answer your question on Aug.15th and be prepared with the box of D-Con in the meantime.

Believe me we have paid more and had the same problem anyway ! I guess that is the hazard of the "Travelin' Man".

We will see you at Kville. AND SMILE PARTNER------It's all good.

You shouldn't have to worry about it being a dump...it is about a mile from my house and is only about 5 years old....I have actually been in a room there and it wasn't bad at all, they even have wireless internet...I think all of the rooms have a kitchenette so you can make your own meals...there is no restaraunt in the motel or anything like that...if this one fills up, there is one in Ankeny, which is only about 10 minutes further from kville...

Yes ! When you go to the website it tells you that it was built in 2006 and has photos of the rooms and exterior. We were impressed with the full size refrigerator in the kitchen and the small two burner stove and sink.

Our history at Knoxville began in 1961,then skipped 10 years while we were employed at local K C tracks, then about 35 years of regular attendance which was broken by our love of Indiana Sprint Week and now it will be a reunion with many old friends. It had gotten to the place where the $1,000 we spent on the proximity of the motel was almost insulting since it was just an ordinary motel just like we stay at in other localities where we attend races.

So many things have changed in 50 years. To remember the 2 lane road that got so clogged with cars that they had to delay the start of the races and the newly added grandstands that we called the chicken roost because there were no aisles-----,once you got in there was no way out until the grandstand emptied ! Eventually the small grandstands were added on the backchute and to sit there with only that small fencing between you and eternity in the event that a racecar got loose and careened into your lap required balls like Jesse Hockett's !

So here we are 50 years later and STILL having fun. May the racing Gods be kind and give us great weather to enjoy the "GRAND-DADDY OF THEM ALL",the Knoxville Nationals ! See you there.
