Whats with all the small tidbits, on the front page the last month or so.. One said that deconstruction on the bathrooms was brought to a halt, i believe it said by Mr Gaylord himself. Then this last one said the cables are buried and the lights have never shined brighter at SFS.. Is there something going on that anybody should know about or are you (David) just messing around?????? I also heard another rumor while we are at it that the reason all of the above has gone on is because Shane Carson is getting the track and SFS will be opened back up??????? WHAT IS GOING ON?????

The power lines at the track are buried, this has come from multible sources.
Several have said one night last week that the lights at the track were on. If it were being torn down there would be no need to check to see if the lights work.
They said that the bathrooms were being torn out. Well you can take that on two possibles, the bathrooms being torn down to ready for demolition or for remodeling and handicap accessible.
I got word last week that there is talk of the track reopening in July and heard that again today. If not in July then 2011.
An email sent to Shane and he denies knowing anything about what is going on, much less that he has involvement in such a thing.
I mentioned Gaylord but was told he passed away a couple of years ago but he does have a son. Am told the original paperwork (whatever it is called) that Gaylord had layed out called for three things to always take place on the fairgrounds or the grounds would be back into the hands of the people in OKC: Cub Scouts of America would always have their meetings here, horse shows would always be at the fairgrounds and auto racing would remain. Only one of the three exists today.
Lastly, and please do not doubt me, this website and message board is being watched by powers to be with the city council and the fairgrounds. I had doubts but was told not to be surprised. So with that said, I do ask that you please do not bash or gripe and show support in whatever is going on. Whether it be the fairgrounds or other potential deals in the surrounding areas.
All I can say is we all need to hang on for the ride and see what happens - if anything.

I was at the Fairgrounds today to retrieve the "Souveneir T-Shirt" sign that I hand lettered and installed more than 20 years ago that hung above the pay window at SFS.
I was told by a reliable source that the facility is slated for demolition and plans are to have that work completed by the 2011 State Fair. The underground electrical work that has been mostly completed in front of the grandstands is to serve other facilities on the grounds. I was involved in the Electrical Bid process and the work performed did not include reconnecting the grandstands to the grid.
There where amendments to the original bid for reconnecting the grandstands to the grid at a cost of $40.000 that the City of Oklahoma City asked promoter Lanny Edwards to cover. According to Oklahoma City's electrical codes; if you make more than a certain percent of upgrades to any electrical system the entire system must be brought up to current codes and standards set by the NEC (National Electric Code). Not to mention the ADA issues.
The Grandstand lights that some witnessed shining brighter than ever were most likely the results of two things.(1) The private Electric Contractor was fulfilling their contract to maintain the lighting at the facility, which explains people seeing workers changing light bulbs around the track.(2) The new underground electrical system feeding the park is not complete and the grandstands is still operating under it's original power system at this time.
I for one hate to see this Historic facility go, it brings tears to my eyes everytime I think about it, but reality is we need to move onto the future. I truely hope I am wrong and there is still a chance of saving the Ol' Girl, but I feel it's a done deal.

Thank you for those facts Allen. As I stated, I am posting what is being said "out on the streets" among those who are heavily involved in the racing community. That would explain the underground wires.
The racing community, as a whole, was left in the dark in the waining years of Fairgrounds Speedway (I still won't call it State Fair Speedway) and it wasn't fair to all of us as maybe something could have been done.
That is why the topic that was started got an answer from what I undertand. I hope you all understand that.

Believe me David, I will never gripe or complain on any way shape or form when there is a possibility of racing either back at SFS or anywhere around the metro. Remember i work at I-44 and you know my whole family.. (the Flatt's, and the Foley's) we have been around the SFS since it was opened and was there when it closed. To me any news is good news. I was just curious cause after i read the front page tidbits.. it was like all the things you was saying was falling on deaf ears, nobody ever mentioned it here on the message board,, i was just curious if what i have been hearing around and what you have been hearing around was one and the same!!! I have a huge respect for you and what you have done with this website,, and i hate it to see anybody,, bash or tear up people who are trying to keep racing here in OKC and the surrounding area's. I don't care if you are with this group or that group, we ALL SHOULD HAVE THE SAME GOAL... RACING BACK IN OKC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My councilman is telling there are no current plans for racing at Fairgrounds Speedway. Like David, it will always be Fairgrounds Speedway to me. The electrical work being done on the grounds is for the entire complex and routine maintenance.
