Patience Key in Dycus NCRA Cowtown Victory

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Kennedale, Texas – May 23, 2010 - Patience was a key for Triston Dycus on this night as the Alvarado, Texas resident stayed within striking distance most of the race and then made his move with four laps to go to take the O'Reilly/NCRA modified south feature finale Saturday night at Cowtown Speedway in Kennedale, Texas.

Pole sitter Keith Green paced the field at the start of the thirty lap feature but it was third starting Bobby Ruffin taking command down the backstretch and the early lead. Mickey Lassiter of Piedmont, Oklahoma, who came into the night as the series points leader, used the low side of the track to challenge the high flying Ruffin with Green and Justin McCoy close behind.

Ruffin kept a solid pace up front opening up to a six car length advantage by lap nine. During this time Lassiter began to have his hands full with fifth starting Clyde Dunn, Jr. as the two started their battle for the runner up position.

Dunn would take over the second spot from Lassiter on lap nine and set his sights on Ruffin. Within two laps Dunn was on the leaders bumper and began putting heavy pressure and at the races midway point, dove down low entering turns three and four underneath Ruffin but could not make the pass work

The first and only caution of the feature would fall on lap sixteen when P. J. Egbert spun in turns one and two.

The final restart was what Dunn needed as he flew around Ruffin between turns three and four to take the lead and quickly open up an eight car length lead.

Behind him, sixth starting Dycus began to make his move towards the front and on lap twenty got underneath Ruffin to take over the second position. Dycus was not done yet and cut the leaders lead down to three car lengths with just five laps to go.

Just two laps later Dycus decided to make his move and drove hard down low in turns three and four and outrace the high flying Dunn down the front stretch to take the lead.

There was no catching the leader from that point forward as Dycus, aboard the Tailor Made Counter Tops/Tim's D&D Auto Parts sponsored Wells powered Kraft Chassis went on to take the four car length victory.

"I just had to be patient and be there at the end," said an elated Dycus. "I let Bobby and Clyde battle with each other and that allowed me to get closer until it was time to make my move. I knew where I wanted to run on the track but didn't want to show my hand too early for fear somebody behind me would take the same line as me. The track started to slick off a little there and worked to my advantage."

Dunn would settle for second with twelfth starting Terry Pritchett was the races hard charger coming home to a third place finish. Ninth starting Jarod Webb came home fourth with Ruffin rounding out the top five.

The five, eight lap heat races for the 47 car field were won by Dycus, Alan Sharpensteen, Troy Taylor, Lassiter and Dunn. Webb and Pritchett wired the field in their respective fifteen lap "B" features.

The next scheduled stop for the O'Reilly/NCRA modified south division will be a double header weekend beginning on Friday night, June 11th, at Elk City's I-40 Speedway in Elk City, Oklahoma before heading West on I-40 to Route 66 Motor Speedway in Amarillo, Texas for the series first appearance in several years, the first for the modified south division.
