go and tell the guys who have junked their racecars or have been running up the front but lost their spot because they had a rear tyre blowout that ........ don't worry the tyre rule is saving you money! tyre rules are dumb. competion in any industry keeps prices down and makes the manufacturers build a better product, but no, goodyear tyres will keep on shredding every week tearing up cars and the car owners racing budget. isn't it nice to live in a democratic country.

It's spelled - T I R E - and they've been popping for years no matter the name on the sidewall - especially at Eldora ... evidently you don't remember the infamous King's Royal a while back....

It is fantastic to live in a democratic country, thus drivers have a choice of wanting to compete in a series with a mandated tire.

Ummm...usually I agree with your posts filtair...but have you checked the tire wear on the half mile tracks this year.....doesn't look good for the goodyear 50th knoxville nats...turning into a napcar race...not only a pit freakin stop for fuel...but now have to conserve MORE and I SAY MORE THAN USUAL on tires....did you hear that....EXTRA EXTRA CONSERVATIVE ON THE TIRES.....not that they had to in the past...but I'm sure someone will bring this up! ha

I didn't listen Sat nite so I don't know how bad the tire popping was. Instead I saw a good 40 lap race at a Hoosier track (Chico) with no tire issues. Congrats to Shane Stewart on the win!

The Outlaws have 3 choices. 100, 200 or 300 compound. I don't think that one driver has yet to even try the 300.
So if you mandate a hard tire they would be equal. but then you open it up to cheating and softening like the WOO and Lucas Oil Late Models have been doing. so I guess a choice is the most fair and the winner will be the one that makes the right choice.

Well here's what I know.......Donny Schatz, Joey Saldana, Sammy Swindell, Craig Dollansky, and a few others I've missed have all burned up right rear goodyears on half mile tracks!...I think ALL have Qualified Veteran crew members that make WISE decisions on tires.....so, my question is why are they having tires go down? Is the tire not able to handle the hp and the set ups that these top tier teams have? what the heck is going on with half mile tracks and goodyears? With the way things are going....Williams Grove and Knoxville will be interesting!

the good years suck weather you prep them right or not, i personally dont agree with a tire rule period, but that may just be me....and we also never really had a problem with the hoosiers doing this near as much......the kings royal was a deal with poor track prep., but then again, alot of people will have different opinions........i just wish everyone would go back to an open tire rule and bring the cost of tires down again.......and the deal with "having an option to choose weather to run a series with a tire rule" , most series and local tracks follow what the outlaws do, not all, but most.....so therefore, not really a choice in most cases.....just my opinion

filtair...it is possible joemad is from "down under" where the spelling "tyre" would be correct.
I'll never see it happen but I would love to see a national 410 series have an open tire rule.

I remember when NARC ran a Hoosier or McCreary tire rule. Nothing wrong with tire rules if more than one make is allowed. Hoosier payed to get alot of tracks and series. Now Goodyear is doing the same thing.

Yeah, they eat that "Vegamite" stuff. YUK!
I think many of the WoO teams use it for a sealer....on head gaskets!

I think it's been pointed out before... open tire rules in theory would save people money based on competition between the tire companies.
There will be a handful of competitors (think Steve Kinser a few years ago running Hoosier when few others did) that get free tires and 98% of the racers wouldn't benefit in the least from an open tire rule.
If you REALLY want a tire rule that works for the racers... use a theory that the IRL had when it started out. Any motor with "these" specs is legal... as long is it is available for purchase to the racers for X dollars. Any chassis with these specs is legal, must be available for X dollars to the teams.
Practical application: you can run any tire you want... it must be available for purchase for $50 to any team. I thought about the tires must be available for purchase at the track that night or they couldn't run. Too much cost for the distributors.
Tires likely cost more than that to get them to the track available for sale... but it's subsidizing the race teams in exchange for stickers on the car/wings (advertising).
Maybe you can buy 1 or 2 rear tires for $50 each night per car entered. Anything over & above that is regular price.
I miss the "4 corners on a car, 4 different tire brands" stuff. Some tracks were 100% better using a specific brand and the other 3 wouldn't grip at all. Different tracks... different brand worked better.
NHRA, Nascar, IRl, F1... they all have tire rules, by the way.

Williams Grove is a half-mile and there have hardly been any tyre "failures". Especially the calibur of some of these WoO debacles. Most of the flat tyres happen after the car has made contact with another car or the fence.

Are the Goodyear sprint tires made in South America? Chile, I seem to remember?
Or have they started making them here in the US?

It may be spelt TIRE in your country but in mine its TYRE, I agree with joemad there is to many tyre problems this year and this is ruining races, the last thing a leader needs is another stoppage through somebody blowing a rear TYRE and loosing his advantage to the rest of the field.
Goodyear have to produce a better TYRE that will go the distance or make it an open TYRE rule.

RG and Joe Mad,
The goodyear deal best thing that has happened to sport, all the tire failures were due to hitting the wall or not prepping right. Alot better TYRE than that junk thing they run on your WSS that never has a winner off the front row. Good racing every week here, I cant beleive getting a company like Goodyear invovled in this sport in these times is considered a bad deal.
