"I know it's the 50th, but 50 laps doesn't quite seem like a sprint car race to me. I have to respect the fans, and it is what they voted for though. I've seen a lot of 30 lappers over the years that had me on the edge of my seat. Fifty laps put so many variables in with the tires and everything elseā¦it makes it into a bit of an endurance race rather than a sprint."
I couldn't have said it better myself.
I'd rather be in Knoxville.

Uh? What's wrong with interjecting all those "variables?" It's just twenty more laps and they even get a "break." Guess the fans have spoken. If I had my way....no break either. Get some big tanks and hard tires people. Also, forget that grenade that was designed for only 30 laps.

Here is an idea that a very good friend of mine had...
Run the first 25 laps regular, then stop, gas up, TAKE THE WINGS OFF, line them up in the order they finished the first segment, then run the last 25 laps WINGLESS.
That would tell us who the best sprint car driver is for sure! Just an idea...

Or....
If you don't like the format, don't go. It's the Nationals' call, based on the fan poll. But no one is forcing anyone to participate, or sit in the stands.....

I don't get all the uproar about this 50 lap race. Have a fuel stop at halfway, only allow the teams to put fuel in the car - nothing else. Brown talking about 50 laps doesn't seem to be a "sprint" car race is crazy. I wonder sometimes how many people actually know the history of the sport. Hell, the Williams Wrove national open used to be 100 laps, and even more than that way back in the day.
Get in. Drive the racecar. It's the 50th anniversary of the grandest race in all of sprint car racing and I love the fact that they are doing something different to seperate it from every other Nationals. It'll be back to 30 laps next year in all likelihood so everyone that is bitching and moaning will have to come up with something different to whine about next year...

NOW THAT IS THE BEST IDEA IN THE HISTORY OF MESSAGE BOARDS!!!!!!!
Loose is when you hit the wall with the rear of the
car, tight is when you hit the wall with the front of
the car. Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall and
torque is how far you move the wall.

Guys don't take my response to the 50 laps as complaining about the 50 laps. I just simply just gave my honest opinion on the subject. It doesn't matter to me if it's 5, 50 or 500 laps I will be there trying to do my best to win our greatest race. Since this has been a hot topic I hope all of you come to knoxvile and help make the 50th anniversery of the nationals a year to remember. For tickets go to knoxvilleraceway.com. Thanks BB

Kudos to Brian and other drivers for answering questions from the fans. There are some who would rather not, or weed through them to get to the ones that have no controversy.
If this post isn't results, stories or something c
constructive, it isn't me!

Please allow me to reiterate(ONCE AGAIN) that the race that is going to be commemorated
was presented on the Knoxville raceway fairgrounds as a SUPER MODIFIED RACE ! Those who act as if the hallowed grounds were the birthplace of sprint car racing are sadly misinformed or too young to have been present to see the likes of Earl Wagner, and the visiting brethren in their homemade and quite individual body styles. BUT KIDDIES,THEY WERE NOT SPRINT CARS !
It EVOLVED into the beautiful specimens that we know today.
Grandma will now step down from her podium. Happy 50th Knoxville.Bud's Bride
P.S. Knoxville is "just another racetrack" and not a church.

a Knox regular forms a pro choice assesment/post and everbody is ok with it , not knocking BB post , just funney how nobody posts a negitive paragraph dislikeing the track, promotors, decisions ect , are you all really going to let this go? (lol) not trying to start anything, just pointing out the convienance of unwanted/bias/opinionated posts when referring a screen name makes a differance in replys (lets remember not everbody on here is just a "mild fan" .

It's a cathedral. I hope my kids spread at least part of my ashes there.

grandest race in sprint car racing my ass!
It's not even the best Knoxville event of the So. Iowa Speedweek. The best race in Knoxville in August is indeed a Nationals.........but it's BEFORE THE 410's!!!!!!!

To Missouri Sprint Fan:
Your request to "scatter your ashes" is lovely but surely not soon ! We need all the racefans we can get as the emptying grandstands will attest.May you attend the "Cathedral"of your choice often and for many years to come.
I must admit that we are considering attending Knoxville this year.We were there for the first one and Bud feels that we should be there to celebrate their 50th.I will take no position on the amount of laps that are to determine the 2010 Champion as my understanding is that it has already been decided.May they be blessed with beautiful weather and an overflowing crowd.

Why is everyone so upset, the Trophy Cup at Tulare went to 50 laps 2 years ago and its still one of the best races you'll ever watch hands down. If there is a yellow after 10 laps it becomes an open red for everything except tires. And if guys can go 50 laps at Tulare without getting tired they should be able to do it at Knoxville. It might be smaller but its pretty demanding on equipment and driver. And whoever made the comment about say goodbye to the 30 lap grenades, good thats just another reason why sprint car racing isn't he with the most talent wins, now its he with the most money.

Thunderbug, I hope you're right, but one never knows. I lost my wife last April at age 47.
I agree with Bud, you should make the 50th if possible. I actually got my mother to go back last year, and I'm going to try to get her to go for the 50th. My parents attended Nationals 1-31 until the passing of my father. I have attended 9-49. My son has made 38-49, and the bug finally bit my daughter and she has made it 45-49. Maybe my kids and grandkids will make the 100th.
