Simona de Silvestro of Switzerland makes her Indycar debut this weekend.
Having won 5 Formula Atlantic races in her career to Danica's zero & being
faster in practice, 21 years old to Danica's 28 this month, and just as attractive.
Danica will finally have to answer the question: Whats does it feel like to be
beaten by a woman? Let Simonamainia begin!

She's not horrible looking... but I'm not sure I would say she is "just as attractive" as Danica. It sounds like she can actually race though, so she has that going for her!

It'll be interesting to see what happens, the first statement on here went to the looks comparison which seems to be the guts of Danica being where she is.

it has to be the "guts" of where she is.... she hasn't won anything, unless you count that watered down, non-points race she won in Japan or wherever it was.

And, without a doubt, everyone posting on here could bet her in a race, right?

Is that a photo of the "new contender", Simona?
We don't judge the guys by their looks (okay - some of you don't).
As someone said - how many races have you done well in the IRL, or whatever it is now?
Danica can put a car through it's paces - probably a helluva lot better than most who post on this forum. I'm not a big fan - but I do give credit where it's due.
Okay - I can be bitter - or judgemental. When I wanted to race, females were not allowed on any dirt track ovals - one reason was we were not allowed in the pits. So I had to choose sports car racing - and I couldn't afford a competitive car. So all of you "nay-sayers" - put up the money or dig up the sponsors and lets see what you can do.

She looks like she is from iowa...no offense...country girl...kinda corn fed...def not hot....Danica is a thoroughbred dime piece...I believe seeing erin crocker get schooled last year at the Jerry Richert memorial at cedar lake and she did have the BEST equipment...IMO she did good for probably only running a 410 4-5 times last year...

Like her or not, the fact is that Danica is a fund-raising machine with good potential. No driver does fundraising better. That is exactly why NASCAR and their drivers are all embracing her so much.
Everyone here knows that you can't run a racing team, or a series without the ability to raise funds. I see nothing bad about embracing drivers with that kind of mass appeal. It is great for the sport, and the more of that kind of driver that can be found the better.

The race she won was a real points race, held at the Motegi oval in Japan. She did win it on fuel milage, but half of those races are won on fuel milage. Dario Franchitti won his first championship because Scott Dixon ran out of fuel on the last lap of the last race of the year.
As far as the field being "watered down" while it's true that the last ever CART race was held at Long Beach the next day, but by your way of thinking, then EVERY Indy Car race from 1996 to the weekend of her win was "watered down". NOBODY was racing in both CART and IRL except at Indy, so EVERY OTHER RACE was a split field. Twelve whole seasons of watered down racing on both sides.

i have to laugh when ever someone has nothing better than to come back with the "how well can you do it" line! it is not about how well we can do, it is about how well she can do. we are comparing a racer against a racer. not against a fan. i can do a lot of things better than she can do, but we are not talking about me or what i can do. we are talking about her! i bet you can do some things better too, but we are talking about race car driving and the people who do that. and if we don't judge men drivers for their looks, and you want to be fair about it, then danica needs no more mention because based on performance and not looks she doesn't deserve the hype. i am not knocking her as a driver, but when you take the gender issue away, she drops like a stone to the level of a struggling racer trying to make her mark in the sport. you may want to grade her on her ability to attract press and media attention, but the results on paper don't warrent that. so don't get all "how well can you do" on people who try to judge her equally against her piers according to results and ability. are you going to compare her to a rick mears or AJ or an unser or to her car owner? what about paul tracy or helio or dixon? you can't put her in the same catagory. the ONLY thing that elevates her is her looks and how that has been used to market her. those people who take out looks and gender and evaluate her based on performance are being fair.

wow danica 22nd out of 24 cars in practice. if you want to ask me how well i can do i would say i could manage to come in last in anything! i don't wish any ill towards her, but some people just have a hard time differentiating be tween a media magnet and a race driver. if you want to rate media magnets you have to rate against people like elvis, the beatles, paris hilton etc. as far as media magnets you can rate danica high, as for a race driver, she is mediocure most of the time and bottom of the barrel today. i give her credit for her determination but her media popularity has no bearing on her racing performance or visa-versa.

I'm not sure anything can be derived from the practice times in Brazil...they are having problems with the track? Apparently the FRONTSTRETCH is too slick!
As far as the Swiss Miss pictured above........I wouldnt' kick her out of bed for eating crackers and she looks MUCH more friendly than Danica or Milka. Ya, she looks like an Iowa gal and that is a good thing.
