Sprinter25 has hit the nail on the head. Sprint car racing cannot support itself on TV and will never be able to. When you watch a sprint car race on TV you get far more interviews and commercials than you do racing action. If the Knoxville Nationals is a 40 lap feature this year and the race is green all the way, how long will the race last? Maybe 11 or 12 minutes? Only us diehard fans will watch it, and even I get tired of all the interviews. When people can tune in to a 2 hour sprint car telecast and see 1 1/2 hours of sprint car racing it might change. For now you get a heat race that lasts two minutes and then they interview Lasoski and he winks at the camera. Maybe we could get Danica in a sprint car? Sorry, had to open that can or worms!

Please don't think I'm arguing with you, Dryslick. Because I'm not. I understand (somewhat) the economics involved and and I understand that it has to be marketable. But how is what your saying any different in Monster Trucks or NHRA drag racing. Very little racing involved with those broadcasts. NHRA isn't a fair comparison as that is such a historical sport and has a huge following but, Monster Trucks...Booooo!!!!

I agree with you that Monster Trucks are not that exciting but I have never seen one in person. One thing is for sure about Monster Trucks and that is that they pack the fans in those stadiums. Probably alot more fans attending those events than sprint car races

True, they do seem to have a packed house. Lots of young kids.

hey, monster trucks have thier own nitch of adult fans, as for the kids, this is a introduction into motorsport ,dont be haten on the bigwheels,LOL I took my two year old nephew to his first monster truck show last week, the expression on his face was priceless, I happen to own and drive a winged 410 the little man has spent some around it but I think he's been too young to notice, when Pinks comes on I change channel, maybe its just me, the arguing, redneck, bracket race, just looses my (entertaining value ) attention, although, I like to watch (what is it ? Pasttime?) more technical material I guess? strange, but true, Pinks just doesnt keep my attention, The material broadcast lately has been pretty rough , the Napcar race i dont even bother tune in on a day off, beings i can watch all the highlights fifty times over during the week, I guess Sprint racing is our underground no biggy I love the short race, all the drivers stories , and drivers are right there at the drop of the checker to spend time with fans at arms length! ,try that with Nascar! its all good, I just preferr one over the other.

I hear ya Dirt Devil. I wasn't knocking them for having what seems to me to be a largley pre-teen audience, they provide a very marketable product, no doubt about that. I was just stating what I see. I agree, Pinks stinks.

I thought that what Versus did with the ASCS races was pretty good. Of course the two week(or more) delay in airing the race sucked but if that's the only way to get it on TV I guess I'm okay with that. They packed that into a nice neat hour long slot, and it seemed to work well. Whatever happened to that deal? Poor ratings, I suppose?

I agree with you and Sprinter25.

But on a side note. I like the ASCS broadcasts on Versus. They keep their interviews short and concise - just go and get a quick word from the race winner. They recap the heats in decent detail as well. They chop it the heck up with commercials - which is A-OK with me because if thats what has to be done to get it on TV - then rock on.

The only thing I would like to see more of - and this goes to varying degrees to all sprint car broadcasts - cut the interviews down a tick - and show highlights from previous races.

Like take footage from the last few ascs races - and show brief recaps of them. Now I say this as a fan - but also as a fan I understand why having the interview time is really good - gives said drivers time to mention their sponsors.

guess it goes both ways really.

On a side note i seem to never know when WoO shows are on. I watch all of the ASCS shows on Versus - but never seem to know when WoO are on Speed. This would be remedied if I watched Speed, but frankly I dont like that channel at all. None of it. I guess maybe I'm not really a racing fan honestly. Because the only racing I like is dirt track ovals. I dont really like anything else at all.......
