NCRA Kicks Off 40th Year in March
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – March 1, 2010 – Midwest City, Oklahoma - It is a tradition that spans forty years with three divisions having been in existence for over 10 years each. However it is two of the newest O'Reilly Auto Parts National Championship Racing Association divisions that will kick off the 40th anniversary season in March as both the modified south and southern modifieds are set to kick off their point championship run in March.
It all begins on Friday and Saturday night, March 5-6 as the O'Reilly/NCRA modified south division heads to Cowtown Speedway in Kennedale, Texas with the annual running of the tracks February Fast 50, this year sanctioned by the series. Saturday night's feature finale winner will receive $2000 for his efforts while drivers will earn $400 just for starting the twenty-four car feature event. More detailed information can be found by accessing the tracks website www.cowtownspeedway.com. Over fifty drivers from six states are expected.
Then just one week later the O'Reilly/NCRA southern modifieds kick off their second season as they join the modified south drivers at Elk Citys I-40 Speedway in Elk City, Oklahoma on Saturday night, March 13. There will be an open practice session for all drivers on Friday night, March 12. This is the only track in the state that runs official NCRA rules for both these divisions with weekly points racing being held every Saturday night.
It should be a banner season for the O'Reilly/NCRA southern modifieds as the eleven races scheduled double the amount the division encountered during their inaugural season last year. Amarillo, Texas driver Gene Weaver has announced his plans to defend his title but this year's quest looks to be more challenging with no less than fifteen drivers having indicated their intentions on competing for the 2010 championship.
While no official word has come, it appears that last year's inaugural O'Reilly/NCRA southern modified champion Chad McNamara of Ponca City is scrambling to put together a ride to defend his 2009 championship. Eight races are currently scheduled for the division with the possibility of one or two more being added later in the season. Early indications show that there could be another strong following, matching that of thirteen drivers who made all events last year. While not yet hosting a southern modified show in 2010, Thunderbird Speedway in Muskogee will run the southern modifieds every Friday night as part of the tracks weekly program.
