I used to watch the NCRA run 50 laps on a 5/8+ track with no fuel stops or open reds. So don't tell me it can't be done.

I voted for 50 ..... sprint car races always seem too short for me .... especially the 25 & 30 lap races.

(30 laps at Knoxville) about 9 minutes if everything goes well.

I'm with Hawker. They can put a larger fuel tank on and run 50 laps. Or - they might consider going back to one of Ted Johnson's first ideas - and possibly his best. Race 25 laps. Stop and I guess he let them work on the car. That wasn't a big deal at that time. Then run another 25 laps with the first half of the field inverted. At the end of that 25 (now 50 laps) - invert the entire field from that finish and run another 25 laps. This was at Boot Hill - West of Shreveport. And - if memory serves me correctly - Rick Ferkel won all 3 races. There was a great collection of racers for this race, also. Not a shoo in for Ferkel.

I just have to mention this - Ted also had a big show at Boot Hill (these races were "tests", I guess you would say, for the World of Outlaws. Anyway - Johnny Suggs advanced from the E Feature to the A. I have home movies of this. I understand they were giving him Oxygen in the ambulance while his crew and friends got his car ready for the next race. I believe this is the race that such names showed up as Bruce Walkup - as well as the early Outlaw drivers.

In other words - @ Knoxville race them 50 laps without a fuel stop or race them 75 with 3 25 lap races - inverted - and let them work on their cars. Most sprint car races don't invert enough positions anymore to make them interesting to the spectators. The promoters and organizers are "babying" the top guys so they will continue to run with them.

Then bolt on a brick. None of the WoO drivers have ever bolted on a SC25 when they were on Hoosiers.

Its not about whether the tires will last, its that I don't want to see the drivers holding back for 80% of the race.

If they run 50 I would rather see a fuel stop. My main issue isn't the fuel stop, its the saving fuel and tires until the end crap. I want to see a race. That's why I say 30.

I voted for the 30 lap race. I'm fine with 40 as long as there is no fuel stop.

One of my issues with a fuel stop is safety. I understand that the crew members generally use caution when fueling a sprint car, mainly so they don't damage any vinyl. However, sprint cars are not built to safely add fuel when a car is "hot". Alcohol spilling on hot brake rotors should be a very real concern when adding fuel to a sprint car, among other things. I just hope all things are considered when making the decision on the whole "stop" or "no stop" issue. The way I see it, a fuel stop creates 24 chances to start a fire.

I understand there are some simple steps that can be taken to prevent fires, I just hope teams take those steps.

I got it, I got it ,I got! If fuel is the issue and you don't want a fuel stop in a 50 lap race. Plus you want to spice it up. Have the teams push the cars for the first 15 laps with their mules. When you cross the line after 15 laps you can fire off and run full speed. To say these guys can't afford it is a joke. Hell their mules have more money mounted to them than a team carried in their whole rig 20 years ago. Plus what do the drivers always say in the post race interview, "It is not about the money I just wanted to say I won the Knoxville Nationals". Cowboy up puss and race.
