I have been waiting for someone to post how well the young California drivers, Kyle Larson and Shane Golobic did at this years Chili Bowl so I could give them a simple pat on the back. I guess I'll post something. Out of over 250 entries, California had seven drivers in the A main. That's a pretty impressive percentage. Two of the four preliminary nights were won by California guys, Cory Kruseman and Darren Hagen. Teammates Shane Golobic and Kyle Larson both made Saturday's A Main event. Golobic finished third in his prelim feature on Tuesday night, then in Saturday's A main, Shane raced up inside the top ten before a couple of tangles in front of him forced him to restart at the rear. Larson had to race in by winning Saturday night's B Main. Then in only his second try, Kyle Larson pulled off an impressive 10 place finish in a field that included some of the worlds greatest dirt track racers.

Earlier in the week Kyle won a Golden Driller driving an Open Outlaw Kart. If you ask any sprint car driver who has ever driven an outlaw kart, he will tell you that they are a handful of evil horsepower strapped to a light weight bucking machine. At only 17 years of age, Kyle has become one of the countries top up and coming drivers. Do I think he was born with his talent? No, but I do think he has developed a desire that cannot be taught. When you put that together with all the track time developing his skills week in and week out, this kid is the real deal. His family's support has obviously played a huge part in his success and they are a nice bunch of people.

You can keep an eye on these young guns at www.kylelarsonracing.com and www.shanegolobic.com

Congratulations to Kyle, Shane, and all the California drivers who did such an awesome job at this year's Chili Bowl!

Sincerely, Chad Hawkins

Congratulations Cole Whitt. You were an outstanding representative from California. The sportsmanship you showed in your after race interview was exemplary. Keep doing what you are doing. You are a great champion up, one Midget championship already under your very young belt, and many more coming in the future I'm sure. I hope the Chili Bowl is one of them.

A fan. Mike Brown

Good for the Golden State! An unconfirmed rumor had Garrett Hansen reinjuring his back at Tulsa. Hope this is not true and that he is ok...
