$10,000 to win the finale' on Sat. Night is all I've ever seen published. Purse is probably far less than what many would expect it to be...

10k for Sat winner is all I've heard too, as well as after that "ain't sh¡t"....its surprising to me that its like that. I don't know how long its been at 10k to win, but at least the past 5 years (this year was only my 3rd time), and I'm sure longer than that. At one time 10k would have been a HUGE amount, but at the same time, there were prolly ony 150 competitors and much less fans (just a guess, compared to present). So now, more and more cars (nearly 300) and stands that are packed FULL to capacity Thurs-Sat BUT the payout stays the same?? 10k is a very nice prize but what about the rest of the A, B's and so on....?? Tickets go up, beer/food, travel, hotels, gas, etc all increase every year....so i'd say Lanny, Emmett, and Tulsa are getting more and more $$ every year and our racers aren't. Doesn't quite seem fair, you'd think an extra 5k could be even distributed throughout some how, at least to the A main competitors. Tbird

When I saw this question in another thread... knew it would be a hot topic.

Haven't you noticed when something isn't readily available... it's because someone doesn't want it to be? They don't want it to be for a valid reason. I'll let you figure out what that reason is.

A racer votes that the process is wrong by not attending. When you show up, you are saying "yes, this is fine."

Asking for an improved purse structure isn't asking too much IMO. A lot of money is spent to run this event... an awful lot of these cars likely won't spin a wheel until next January if truth be told.

People whining about the purse likely started with the 1st car race... I wouldn't hold my breath until corporate-level sponsors are onboard.

Lap sponsorships for Saturday's A go for $100 per lap ... not sure if that all goes to the leader or how that works.

well I supose there is'nt much need to pay more. if you made it more attractive and another 100 cars show up then what. some pit outside, add monday night also, start the R features 8am sat. lol. I'm for paying drivers they deserve it for sure, but until car counts drop there likely is no need to change much.

now on the other hand maybe it does pay well and thats why there is so many cars. And its not a bad thing if Emmett and lanny make some cash or they wouldn't keep doing it

Why would they need to change anything? Almost 300 cars and no telling how many people in the stands and all the vendors paying for floor space all week. Yes I agree a better pay out would be better for the drivers but ask yourselves this question. If your were the promoter would you pay out more money if you did not need to? This has been proven over and over for 24 years, open the doors and they will come because it's the Chili Bowl...

I would venture to say that profits from the Chili Bowl is responsible for the success of ASCS. Early on at some venues attendance was poor, to say the least. But they paid the advertised purses and grew the series to what it is today. Every new venture that Emmitt has tried has not made money. The 2 races at Fair Meadows (Tulsa Expo Horse Track) is an example and the new Midget series has R&D cost. Theres new upstart region cost, etc, etc. Yes, the Chili Bowl makes a huge profit but a substantial part of that helps build other ventures.

Just my opinion, I had a great time at my 1st Chili Bowl. BUT the prices for food and beer were steep....... The thing that really burned my butt was the $30 pit pass for the practice on Monday. They also charged full price for pit passes all week even if you had a ticket to the races......... My cousin finished 14th and I didnt ask what he made but, Im sure he spent alot more for the week than he took in..... Once again I had a good time but felt kinda violated after the fact......

I believe a number of people miss out on the pit pass deal. If you hit the Pit Pass ticket window on your way into the arena you can pay $45 and turn in all nights of your ticket and get a wristband that gets you into your seats and the pits each day.

Just curious if theres anyone, or there's anywhere I can go to find out what the payouts are for one of the biggest races in all of motorsports.

As a person "who has been there and done that", I hope no one entered thinking they could get paid like it it was a summer show in Wisconsin. It is an opportunity to race when the wind chill factor at home -10 and it is place to see family and friends before the tulips pop out of the ground. Why would they publish the purse as it doesn't change the number of entries? I am pretty confident that no one who entered was counting on making their expenses back let alone come out on top. My family spent thousands of dollars knowing full well it wasn't a big payout event. I think if you talked to Lanny or Emmett, they would say if you don't want to run for this purse then please don't come. What the promoters do with their profits is there business. I say good for them. I hope everyone thinks about the cost of putting on this event, because they are HUGE. As far as the concession prices I will bet anyone that Lanny and Emmett have little to do with this, as the Expo Center hold exclusive rights to all food and beverages. If you would go there next week to the boat show or the wedding cake show, it would be the same concession staff selling the same products for the same price. I struggle as a fan, as a promoter, as a car owner and souvenir salesman to figure out why anyone other than owners and drivers would worry about the purse? As a fan you have choices, if you don't think the ticket price is related to the show, then I wouldn't go.

Just my thoughts

Rusty

Anyone ever think how much it costs to rent the huge building, build the racetrack, then take it back down? I think the food prices are set by the Quick Trip center.

As it has been said many, many times, the Chili Bowl is not about money. Also, as was stated in a recent NSSN article, if you are a serious midget team, you now HAVE to race the Chili Bowl, it's the biggest race there is for picking up new sponsors or taking care of the sponsors that you have.

The Chili Bowl reminds me a lot of the IMCA Supernationals in Boone. $2000 to win and 350+ mods and 10,000 people on Friday & Saturday..... ole Bobby Lawton makes over $1,000,000 on that week.

You've got good pts in there, Rusty, but restricting talk to what is relevant to a fan... ouch. There would be 3 threads in here.

Most people on a message board love racing and love sprint car racing in particular. If they are here for another reason... this isn't the place for them.

We talk about everything sprints... that includes lots of items we have no control over, things that don't make a difference to us personally, etc. It's discussion. It's often what we'd do differently given the opportunity. In general it's harmless I think. Drivers and owners and promoters don't have to get involved with message boards because they're out there living it daily. If they want... they visit. They probably get mad or laugh at how outsiders view things without a penny invested.

I for the most part have enjoyed message boards over the last 8-10 yrs because in general I'm talking racing with people that like talking racing. I could do without the bickering... but keyboard commandoes are what they are. A good healthy debate gets people involved and I've learned a lot in here.

The promoters for this event are no fools. Why would they raise the purse when they know the cars will come anyways? It's Chili Bowl. As a driver you don't go there to get paid. You go there for the opportunity to say you won "Chili Bowl". As a fan, you go there to see 5 nights of racing you won't see anywhere else all year and to party for a week straight (or at least I do). It's not cost effective to attend but thats besides the point. What is these day's? If you have a grandstand ticket it only costs another $90 to buy a six day pitpass (mon - sat). One heck of a bargain if you ask me. I went last year and again this year and wouldn't change a thing. I love it and $ willing will go every year.

It is my understanding that the Tulsa Shootout covers the cost to put on itself & Chili Bowl. Thus leaving Chili Bowl as an all profit event for the promoters. I can't think of anything wrong with this. I wouldn't even want to begin thinking of all that they have to do to put on a event like this.

As my son would say "It is what it is". If it's not your cup of tea for one reason or another don't go. But if you have good seats let me know cause I'm probably gonna want them for next year. =)

I personally don't give a crap what u have done. If u read my initial post I was asking for information. I was not attacking anybody unlike yourself. Actually I was wondering if you were lucky enough to make the show Sat. night out of 250 or so cars how much did you bring home. Even though its looking less and less like the free America I did think I still had the right to ask a question.
