Madsen Topples Schatz In $10.000 Stampede Posted Tuesday, 29 December 2009 by PCR Media
Ian Madsen looked done and dusted, but he rallied to edge home American Donny Schatz and Marty Perovich in the Hogs Breath $10.000 International before the season's biggest crowd tonight at Tyrepower Parramatta Raceway.
It took a second gasp for young Madsen to dive under Schatz and re-claim the lead just as Garry Brazier arrived and flew past the American and Madsen.
That's the way they looked like going to the line until Madsen and Brazier touched on the back straight which sent the Australian champion into the tyre wall.
Officials immediately gave the protest flag to Madsen who fought off Schatz in the Pick and Payless ##2 machine, fast finishing Marty Perovich and Tony Stewart who placed fourth after another outstanding drive in the traffic.
Track conditions were slick in the pit corner and tacky in the first and second loops which made it a driver's track all night.
Madsen deserved his $10.000 prize and Schatz admitted as much at the presentation ceremony.
"You deserved the trophy Ian, but don't get used to this winning," said Schatz with a smile.
"I really hate losing in this business, but the kid beat us fair and square tonight," he added.
If there was a driver who deserved some sympathy it was Brazier.
He and Madsen were like prize fighters in their relentless slugging with Schatz in the traffic.
Brazier also won the A dash for the second straight night while quick time went to Schatz after Stewart was fast time winner before Donny and Brazier nudged him back a few slots.
James Thompson started fourth and finished fifth while American Tim Shaffer rounded out the top six.
It was an outstanding race and the big crowd of vocal locals never stopped cheering.
Drivers now have a few days rest before the Scott Darley $50.000 to win presented by Coca Cola.
The two night meeting will be held this Saturday and Sunday nights with Schatz, Stewart and Shaffer being joined by fellow countryman Jason Johnson while the Australian roll call starts with Garry Brazier, Robbie Farr, Brooke Tatnell, Ryan Farrell and another Madsen by the name of Kerry.
It just gets better doesn't it?

This was just posted on Australian Speedway Com by Former GM of TPCR Steve Green
Congratulations to Ian Madsen, Donny and Marty.
I think we all knew once Ian got a start near the front he would be hard to beat and to do it with the best in the world as competition makes the win all that much sweeter, sounds like it was a great race.
I was near Kerry when he got the news, it was a special moment to see how proud he was of his brother!!
Good on you Steven Green

That line is so wrong. Brazier crashed himself out of the lead when he looked the goods to grab the 10,000

Look at the difference in Time between Madsen Fastest and Donny's Fastest.
They were the 2 quickest laps of the A-Main that finished the main

It was quite a good night. The track was too slick in 3 and 4 after having 3 full days of rain but you get that. They actually did the right thing which needs to happen all the time after time trial which is give the track a light spray of water and it brought that section back to life
The Feature race was good. Ian Madsen was gone for all money when both
Brazier and Schatz passed him with about 9 to go. Ian to his credit
watch Donny and smoked him with a nice pass on the restart. He got
passed again by Brazier and Schatz. Ian once again pass Schatz and
Brazier on the low side coming out of 2. Brazier put her into the back
straight wall simple as that. Madsen got a perfect restart with 3 to go
and never looked back.
Well Done Ian Madsen
The Wingless feature was quite bad for our team. We were in the top 5 and a car ran over the back of our tail tank causing us to spin. We were sent ROF for a drivers bad move from behind but we our driver did stop. On the restart the car went forward 6 spots in the last 6 laps.
I have some awesome photos to come your way from a hiding spot at the track. Hope you enjoy

Brazier crashed himself out Tatnell fan?
I would rather wait for an unbiased opinion before making judgement. How can you make a judgement like that when your on the other side of the track? On top of that, your sox are pulled up so high they cover your eyes!

Young Ian Masden ..... (younger brother of Kerry) simply out raced Donny Schatz on the night.
Donny had no answer for Ians speed and every time that Donny passed him Ian came right back and drove his car under or around Donny to retake the lead back.
To watch three top cars fighting for the lead every lap was a spectators dream,
Masden, Schatz, Brazier changing positions almost every lap sent the crowd wild, it was better then any Outlaw race that i have seen. .......... Congratulations to Ian Masden for his fine win and his $10,000 cheque.

The article above (from PCR Media) said "Madsen and Brazier touched" and that officials immediately showed Madsen the protest flag, so don't see how Brazier crashed himself out, maybe we'll get a confirmation of what happened, but sprintcarworld.com article said the same. Must have been a heck of a race.

Beating Schatz is a big deal no matter where it happens and it nevers ceases to amaze me that Stewart drives a 410 once or twice a year and outperforms a typical night for his 20 car at home. Brazier really impressed me when he raced in PA over the summer. Three top tens in consecutive speedweek shows was the best outing by any outsiders in PA, besides Schatz

As i saw it there was no problem with the incident, it was just a racing incident,.
The officials gave Masden the protest flag just in case there was a problem that they missed at that pictular moment, it was reviewed later after the race and found to be a racing incident, Garry Brazier never complained or entered a protest that we know of so no futher action was warranted.
