I just bought a used Sports Mod and was wondering if anyone would share what gear/tranny, overall gear and RPM's they are running. I would like to run mostly at Oklahoma Sports Park and Brill Motor Speedway and possibly other tracks. Any info would be very helpfull. I will also post my Pure Stock for sale very shortly.
Thanks Robert

At Ada run a 700 gear, car should turn around 9,000-9,500 rpm's. At brill run a 800 gear and should be around the same rpm as Ada. If you don't like turning your motor that tight keep it on the trailer.

Do not gear your sportmod @ 8.0 for meeker. Stock rod motor wont live there(9K rpm) for long.
6.60 to 7.0 I run 1.76 glide with 3.73 rear = 6.56 and am competitive. Could use a tad more but it works well. Good luck.

Ada 5.75 to a 6.10 I run a 5.86 turn just under 7000
Meeker 6.00 to a 6.5 I run a 6.46 turn just under 7000
You are not going to get much more than 7000 out of a hydraulic lifter.

I agree with P Colby. Turning a sport mod motor near 8k is asking for catastrophy let alone 9+k rpm. There isn't a sportmod motor that can handle that. I run between 5.90 and 6.10 and try to stay about 7k rpm. Besides that's where your motor will start losing power with the heads we can run. Jmo
#85 Limited Mod!! THAT JUST HAPPENED!!!

Thanks alot guys this will help. My father-in-law has raced for years so i know a stocker motor will not turn 9,000 for very long. I have a 3.9 gear in the car now and i may run a th350 in second 1.52 for now and see how that works. I would like to run a std. but i currently have a th350 out of my pure stock. Thanks for all the help.

We will be running sport mods at thunderbird speedway in Muskogee. would say the around a 5.00 would be close here. hope to have a few 1200 to 1500 to win specials maybe try to run an NCRA show. Still working on the schedule, but should have most of it pretty soon. www.thunderbirdspeedwaymuskogee.com

Who runs stock rods in their sport mod? We run billet oliver rods and have good luck with them. We also have a good roller cam that works good with the acid ported heads that brezinski did for us.

most of the guys run a southern sport mod rules were a roller cam is illegal. Last year was the first year for after market rods for us to use legally.

i am building my mod according to the IMCA southern sport mod rules. If we can not keep up at meeker with their rules we will run Ada since they stay close to the IMCA rules. If i could afford to have an engine like silver fox i would just run a regular modified. Thanks for the help guys!

I agree with Wiskers, if the Silver Fox is running like that I would own that engine.

Silver fox ur engines are a thing of the past u guys really need to step it up .you need to stop by and check out my new shaft mounted stock rocker setup ,plus the mushroom cams I run are way more reliable than those rollers u guys r runnin at a fraction of the cost . Forget ur acid porting Brezenski will now put EQ on dart heads and they pass inspection plus they casted 5.7 on my Dyers rods way lighter ! Plus those tires make a big difference ....I'm still waitin on that gallon of tire softener!! Lol
winners dont cry when they lose , they go back to the
drawing board and come back for round 2 !
