Sammy Swindell ran second to Johnathan Allard in tonights International Sprint Car feature at Western Springs Speedway this evening. Running a Kriner/Maxim for local car owner Ron Salter Sammy looked in control while leading in the early stages of the race. However as the race progressed Allard steadily made inroads into his lead and managed to get by in lapped traffic. Despite a couple of cautions Sammy was unable to take back the lead and finished a comfortable second ahead of local driver Rhyan Oconner, also driving for Salter Motorsport.
Kevin Swindell finished third in the International Midget Feature. Despite being the top qualifyer Kevin struggled with an intermitent engine problem and ran 2nd to Jerry Coons Junior for a majority of the race, but he was unable to hold off a last lap pass by local Brad Mosen.
Bot applied themselves well as both got no more than a few hotlaps to familiarise themselves with the track while Allard ran several
meetings at Western Springs last summer and Jerry Coons Junior has been a regular visitor in the last few years.

Let's try this instead..
Arizona's own Jerry Coons Jr won the International Midget Feature at Western Springs Speedway last night, with Australia's Brad Mosen coming across the line in second... Coon's, a USAC triple crown winner was the class of the field, and stunk up the show so bad they started out the paragraph above talking about who came in third.
You don't start off by saying who came in 2nd or 3rd mate. It's the winners who should be up front.

When I clicked on this story, I expected to see one of the Swindell's as winner and not until I saw in 3rd paragraph "ran second to Jerry Coons" did I realize what the?? That was a weird story.
Adding $6 trillion of debt in his 1st term and now if
elected again he wouldn't have to worry about an
electorate in 2016 so the sky is the limit. And his EPA
would continue to put the screws to oil drilling and
mining for coal. Can you say bankruptcy.

I think so, but not sure yet... To bad about Jesse going to Australia this year, our lose, their gain. I think he's been to what, the last three McCluskey classics? Anyway, I know he was 21 the first time he was there.

Ok Kenny, fair call. Coons was the class act but Brad Mosen is a Kiwi. Calling a Kiwi an Aussie is akin to calling an American a Canadian. The next International meeting at Western Springs is Wednesday night our time so I may well give it another shot.
US Midget Team: Jerry Coons Junior, Kevin Swindell, Scott Hatton & Tony Elliot
US Sprint Car Team: Sammy Swindell, Johnathan Allard & Ricky Logan.

Sorry about the mix up GMAC, but it would be more like calling me a Texan since I live in Arizona, and I have also spent some years in New Mexico.
We'll all be looking forward to your post after the Wednesday show, and here's to luck to all the boy's from New Zealand......http://www.springsspeedway.com/index.sm

Cheers Kenny, we will need the good luck. The New Zealand locals are competitive with the American Midget guys, normally due to the fact that the Americans step off the plane from a long flight into a different time zone up against some stout locals in unfamiliar equipment. The Sprint Cars are a different story. Our guys can compete with the likes of Allard and Logan (in local equipment) but we get our arses handed to us on a plate when the likes of Joey Saldana and Craig Dollansky are in town. Sammy was wicked fast in the qualifying heats, but by his own admission went the wrong way on the set up with the car ffor the feature . Still no slouch for 54 years old on a track he has never seen in a car he has never driven.

If you can find the way to Western Springs Speedway website Mr friendly guy you'll find a whole page on Allard.
Didn't Walker put a whuppin on Allard more than a few time's this year?
Duck Kenny, duck!

He said that Kevin's engine was going away in the Midget race, but only said this about Sammy "Despite a couple of cautions Sammy was unable to take back the lead". So as far as Sammy was concerned, he made no excuses, none, zip!. He did mention at the end that Coon's and Allard had been to the track before though.. If Allard has just a small percentage of the success that Sammy has had over all these years, he'll have had a great career by most standards.

Walk away from the crack pipe. JA would be the first to tell you that he does not yet belong in the same sentence as Sammy.
