Actually, the note on the back of the photo says 1923. 34 may just be a file number. Wish there was a passenger car in the pic...that's how I usually figure approximate years.

How would the years add up?Now I did graduate from Capitol Hill,even with that kind of math the speedway was built 55 yrs ago.Would that come to about 1954? It is good to see nostalgic pics anyway.

Got it in one, Brian. Seems they used the same basic design for the "new" fairgrounds grandstand as well as the track. They eventually tore the roof off this one and it was the grandstand at Douglas High football field up until they built the new school a few years ago. Hey, wait a minute....that was a MAPS project, too wasn't it? Definitely a conspiracy against grandstands.
