I'm just curious why most threads on most sprint car forums turn into pissing matches? Racing is looked at from the outside world as a "redneck sport" and if they ever checked the forums it looks like it is. A person can't start a simple thread and wish a driver or team good luck without someone bashing that driver or team. why is that?

Becuase we are all competitors and we can't let the other guy win.
But when it comes time for a Racer in need we are all always there to support our fellow Racers.

It's not just racing, it's everywhere. In my opinion, which is worth nothing just like everyone elses, the majority of the bashers are from people who are so insecure and feel so threatened they can only feel better by belittling others. For these people if you don't win the championship, the Super Bowl, the World Series then you and/or your team sucks. The reality of it is that anyone who gets to compete in the top level of their field, be it sports, business, or whatever have arrived at that position due to a combination of hard work, natural talent, just plain dumb luck, or being at the right place at the right time. It is without doubt the worst player ever to play major league baseball, pro football, land an Indy car ride, or even finish 15th in a feature at the local dirt track has infinitely more talent and desire than 99.99% of us could ever hope to have. It's a reflection of today's society. Feel better about yourself by belittling everyone else. People sit at their computers and tell the world how your hero sucks because he or she wrecked, spun out, struck out, dropped a pass, whatever. The reality is that those doing the bashing are grossly insecure, jealous, ignorant, or some combination thereof. I'm sure some will bash this and say how stupid I am or whatever. I'll laugh and go on with my life knowing that those I choose to support or cheer for will have good days and bad days just like we all do but are in fact doing what most of us will never attempt.

well last i checked message boards were for people to post thier opinion. thats what makes the world go round. if everybody wished everybody well and there was no competition, then we wouldnt have the sport we love. and some of the opinions on this board that you may not like come from drivers and crew members. not everybody on here is a fan. just because people may not be a fan of the same guy you are, doesnt mean they are bashing them personally. so if you dont like what others have to say, you might want to stop logging in. or quit whining buddy. but thanks for the Dr. Phil like psychology lesson.

Don't take this stuff so seriously. Much of it is toungue-in-cheek. Many of these guys have been on here for years and know one another quite well. They like to trash one another, but probably shake hands and laugh about it when and if they meet in person.
Also, as another poster said, when something serious happens and someone needs help this community comes together like no other. You might not see it so much on this particular forum, but you do see it at tracks all the time and that's who we are. The people at the tracks.

This place is very calm compared to some.
Go to any of the various late model message boards and type the name Bloomquist in the subject line and it will turn into an 8+ page war.

Thank you for proving my point. Another perfect example of why this country is in the shape it is.

Well said Petes Kid. It is one of the reasons I rarely log in to post anymore.
sprintjr71 - Classic. Telling some one this message board is for people to voice their opinion and if they don't like it keep their opinion to themselves.
There are a ton of way to voice displeasure with something without the personal attacks on character, gender or even family. But it has become a mentality of an entire nation. From t-ball and punt, pass and kick all the way to the politics of this country. Yes this board is tame by some comparisons but it doesn't make it right.

If you are speaking of your last thread, you posted that you hoped they would make a few changes to be more competitive and win more races. I let you know that they have changed almost everything that bolts onto that car, such as chassis, engine, wings, shocks and so on. I wasn't bashing the team at all as I like Jesse, Matt, Pickles and Jonesy.

Racing forums could be much friendlier than they are. I have never understood where people who have never owned or promoted racetracks get off bashing those who do. I have never understood why people who have never driven a sprint car can get on these forums and bad mouth a driver. I guess people can be very brave when the can be anonymous. Apparently they can also be low class.
I also fly RC airplanes and the forums for that hobby are very friendly. Those forums are more about promoting that hobby and encouraging new people that are getting into it. Even people who disagree about stuff don't let it disintegrate into name calling. I wish racing forums could be more like that.

i didnt tell him to keep his opinion to himself, i told him to quit looking at what others are posting if he didnt like it. if he doesnt like what others say, thats his problem. he can post whatever he wants, since thats what were here for.

This forum could use a $25 annual pay to say discussion forum. That could keep out most of the teenagers that are quick to argue.
It would also keep out the "sick and tireds" and we could have some meaningful discussion.
Having said that, if you look at a mutual fund message board, it gets into pissing matches too...I quess it is the American way to argue thru typing???

One way to stop 90% of it is to make every member use their real name as their username and also have their real email address listed in their profile. It's the anonymity of message forums that bring the bozos out of the woodwork.

For those of us with nothing to hide, it's no big deal. but the keyboard commandos will never volunteer. It needs to be done at the board registration level.

I agree with "this place is calm compared to many". You gotta get out into the real world of internet forums. Pretty rugged place and talking about pizzing contests. This is nothing.
Lawlessness + liberalism = HELL - NYC, Detroit, Chicago,
Seattle, LA Who the H runs those cities.

Being a racing board has nothing to do with it. Its just the nature of the beast. Whether its racing, politics, music or what ever, if its an open forum, it can be ugly. Just check out news web sites that allow comments or even you-tube comments...gezzzz, now thats scary.

sprintjr71;
Your statement about your true identity means close to nothing. That's like saying that my user name includes 4 letters of my real name. You drive a #71 sprint; I wonder how many of those there are in the country between winged and non-winged, dirt and asphalt tracks. No offense, but let's keep it real.
As for the notion that everyone use their real name, that would pretty much be the end of message boards everywhere. Maybe 1/2% of people would comply, and most of the others would just use synonyms or some other dodge.
I've used the same user name on ALL boards since I started inhabiting them. No, it's not my legal name; but if you can't find me then you ain't really trying. In fact, I've had people from all over this country and a couple of others locate me. Not a tough thing to do. Between my job at the track and my articles in Flat Out, I do have quite a few people who know of me or have met me in person.
I do agree with the original posters sentiments though. Although some (possibly quite a few) posters are merely having fun with each other, but there are quite a few more on this (and more on most other boards) that aren't and truly believe that the veil of anonimity provided means invulnerability. Sad, but it's the way of the world we live in unfortunately.
I am lucky enough to work at one of the best tracks
anywhere.

'veil of anonimity'...not so sure...on another race forum a 'Pest' keep rudely kept attacking a driver and race team for about six months...finally the race team owner had enough and posted a challenged the 'Pest' to call him personally and explain why he disliked his team/driver ,and posted his personal phone #....the 'Pest' response was to one more time post a slur....the following day the Race team owner posted the 'Pest' true name and city where he resided..........I don't always follow sprinter 25's great advice but...if I can't say something good ..well I think i'll try to say nothing...remember I said 'Try'....as far as 'Red neck' go's ..the guys I race with are hard working, generous and serious competiters..so if their 'Red Necks'...I'm proud to be one of them
