Supposedly the city of OKC has land near the OKC airport and is just waiting on an investor to come in and build a new track, facility, etc. We can provide great fans, lots of racecars and a long tradition of great Friday night racing. State Fair Speedway has been the greatest place for families to go watch races. The 11 p.m. curfew allowed families to get home at a decent time.

Although Oklahoma hasn't had 410 racing since the Tulsa Speedway closed about 10 years ago, there were still as many Oklahoma drivers in the Knoxville Nationals A feature as any other state had. We still have great talent in this state! In addition to having five classes of cars in 2009 where one class was off each week, in the past State Fair Speedway has hosted ASCS national and regional series, late models, World of Outlaws and motorcycles. We will support racing in Oklahoma City!

If Carl Edwards can do a business card campaign and end up in Nascar, maybe Hosehead's can attract someone to come in and build a new track and new tradition in OKC. (unclea – this one's from Jannie)

Don't guess they could bitch about the noise if it is built by the airport. Although some probably still would ...

Watch out for the location. While I'm not from the area, I see one problem. If it's as close to the airport as it sounds, the track could have the same fate in 30 years due to airport expansion. And it's quite obvious that it doesn't matter to city officials if there is a race track there, if there is a chance to build something else on the site, they will. Even if current city officials like the track, the next bunch may not. It's just really sad that people don't realize how much money and exposure a racetrack brings to a town. I live in a town with a dirt track, and I can't even count how many racers fill up at the gas stations, eat at the local restaraunts, wash their cars at the carwash, buy parts, stop at the grocery store, stay at the motel, fix their tow rigs, etc. And race fans are the same way, they stop at all those places too. Look at places like Knoxville. I went there a couple years ago for the Outlaw show. Spent the night at the Super8, ate at Pizza Hut, etc. No offense to Knoxville, but if they didn't have a track, I wouldn't go there, nor would I have heard of it.

Sad to hear about the fate of State Fair Speedway. It's a neat place, the only covered grandstand speedway I've ever been to. I made a few trips up there while I was going to jet engine school at Sheppard AFB in Texas. Right after my graduation, my wife and I went up there and we saw Shane Stewart win an ASCS race. I agree with Lawn Enforcer about the airport. There was a dirt track in St. Augustine, FL. that got shut down, supposedly because the dust would occasionally blow across a nearby airport. Hopefully the fans and racers of OKC will get a new dirt track soon. ~John~
