It has been Posted on the Web site that as of Dec, 11th 2009 the 2010 racing season has been cancelled unless an electrical problem is fixed, also said that Lannys Contract has not been renewed.

Well that sucks! No racing at SFS and it looks like the same thing with Enid. Cody, any plans for the fantasy league with another track for next season. I was really looking forward to it. Hope you come up with something but if you don't I understand.

It also says to flood the mayors office and others so we can maybe have a farewell season. I thought 2011 was to be the last season. Man i'm getting a headache.

This does really suck! I don't race anymore but that doesn't mean I like whats going on at the fairgrounds. I sent my email to the Mayor & have also sent an email to channel 4 to get the media involved. Trying to get in touch with Kevin Ogle, known him since high school! Got to at least have a farewell year!

Yes, we can fight this.
I am picking up that "in the end" after all is said and done, there will be a lot of unhappy people over the way Cornett and his homies have manhandled you politically.
Yesterdays paper said there is NO VETO POWER on the 'citizens overview board' for maps3.
They are only a front, they have no power and are truly ONLY for public opinion manipulation. This board will be under the impression they will have power, BUT unless you are in the loop with those that will make scads of moolah from this racket, you're just going to have your ego stroked. Simply put--they will lie to you just to get yo' munny.
Former Mayor Humphries is against the 'no veto' move, yet he is out, and they are in.
I work with people like this everyday.

It's great what you are doing but we still have the electric problem so we can have a season next year.

I know, and now the electrical problem gets in the way of getting supermodifieds on the Fairgrounds track for a vintage show.
That has been the biggest goal for the hobby here since this chapter of the story started last fall. But there has ALWAYS been something in the way, somewhere. Not always 'just Lanny'. I'm a Lawton guy, always have been. But, the hobby needs Oklahoma City.
Right now, I have a display in the works on the NSRA side, well, the ideer wuz to charm our way into the speedway on opening night, first as a promotional draw, and then get track time the next day. Also to draw attention to the cars that are coming back.
This is not about fame for me (do you even know what I look like? I like the relative anonimity I still get when going to OkC). This about the stuff that made us do what we do now.
2010 would have been perfect since both the NSRA dates AND the usual opening night dates were beginning to line up with each other. IT COULD BE SWEET! Everybody would have been happy, well that is except for the ones that want to tear it down.
Timing is crucial, but OkC is very difficult when people don't agree enough to get the deal done.
So yes, we need the electrical work done, and one more season there.

Does anyone know how bad the electrical problem is or know any details? What needs to be fixed? How much it would cost?

Someone said around $40,000 and it all had to be under ground and the fair grounds said they are not going to pay for it to be fixed. From what I understand its been the same way since the 50s, so what is one more season going to hurt. To me it just sounds like they will do anything and everythang to shut SFS down.

Whoever did the work , could give them a great deal and have the racers and maybe even the speedway list them as a sponsor.
Think of it, a "-insert name here-Electric" vinyl sticker on every race car. The track could do the same.
I could even get the vintage guys to put the stickers on their cars in most cases, just to be a part of it.
The film, and pictures last forever, and the stuff that's in it is preserved. publicity for a lifetime since no one throws out pictures of old supermodifieds these days. The old cars have turned a corner and they can help the new cars, and in this case--the track.
Hell I'm getting 400+ views a day on the videos I posted on the TUBE. I see the 'view count as a percentage indicator of those that actually like these cars , computer or not. DO IT ON STREET ROD DAY, EARLY APRIL, IT'S GREAT PUBLICITY.
The mixture of race/pageantry would turn some heads fo' sho'.

Yes, and if this work is done, and if we get comfortable, they will come in again.
THIS IS A SCARE TACTIC TO BOO LANNY AWAY, AND LEAVE THE TRACK UNPROTECTED.
They'll make the rest of their case in the papers and the telly-tube.

Former Mayor Humphries is against the 'no veto' move, yet he is out, and they are in.
The reason he is in is because alot of land that will be used by the downtown area by MAPS3 is because Humphries owns the land! He's going to make a killing off MAPS3!!!
There should be no contractors brought into the wiring problem nor should Lanny have to pay for anything! Lanny doesn't own the track, the City of OKC owns the entire fairgrounds. All that has to be done is to send in City crews to do the work, they would already be on paid salary to do the work anyway. The City has the equipment & manpower to do the work!!!
I haven't heard anything from Channel 4 as of yet. I'm going to try to contact them again today! If they do contact me, I need some firepower>>>>>>
Can anyone tell me just how long racing has been in OKC. Not just the fairgrounds but racing in general. I know they used to race over on Eastern where the fairgrounds was once at, but I don't know the exact years.

Galen would be a good person to get more of the history of the track from.

Oklahoma City Coliseum aka Stockyards 1937-1950
Old OKC Fairgrounds 1913-1954
Old Fairgrounds on Eastern (Douglas High School) 1948-1954 I believe
Current Fairgrounds (SFS) Speedway 1954- present
Taft Stadium 1946-1964
I think my records are correct.

This really freakin sucks. I dont know what ill do if they shut down the fairgrounds. Well by what my grandmother says Racing in Oklahoma has been around since the 30's or 40's, so about 60 or 70 years now at least. I've have been going there my entire life and here recently i have brought friends from school out there and they have had a blast and want to keep on coming out there with me.
