Inaugural Season for NCRA Sport Mods This Saturday Night
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – October 12, 2009 - The stage has been set for the season finale of the inaugural year of the O'Reilly/NCRA sport modifieds as a mere 25 point separate the top two drivers from a season championship. And what better way to showcase this new division and the final point's race then for it to occur at the home of the NCRA, 81 Speedway in Park City, Kansas this coming Saturday night. Also in competition and seeing their final points race for the season will be the O'Reilly/NCRA modifieds.
Despite not having reached victory lane, Chad McNamara of Blackwell, Oklahoma comes in as the division's current point's leader and will do his best to hold off a late season charge of Amarillo, Texas driver Donny Raney for the championship. Raney has picked up two Hard Rock Hotel-Casino feature victories thus far in 2009, including the prestigious Hutchinson Grand Nationals championship in the sport modified divisions first ever appearance at the fairgrounds half mile oval. Raney will also look to become the second Amarillo driver to pick up a series championship this year as Gene Weaver won the points championship in the new Oklahoma modified division.
Sitting third in the division point standings is Clinton, Oklahoma's Robert Elliott. Elliott, who has two victories on the season, had a bad stretch of two "DNF's" and is 125 points out of the points lead but is still mathematically alive.
Tied for fourth in the point standings are Cushing, Oklahoma's Frank Graven and Randy Thomas of Elk City, Oklahoma while fifth in points is Edmond, Oklahoma's Todd Decker.
Rounding out the top ten are Oklahoma drivers Nick Schenberger (Sharon), Bob Mock (Del City), Mike Schenberger (Sharon) and Kevin Snow (Enid).
Other drivers expected to attend and who have competed on all of the seven races that have been held are David Givens (Perry), Landon Maddox (Fairview) and Walter O'Dell (Hennessey). Close to twenty drivers are expected to compete.
Gates open at 5:00 PM with green flag racing set to start at 7:00 PM. 81 Speedway is located North of Wichita on I-135 to exit 16, then 0.7 miles west on 77th. All grandstand tickets are $8.00. For more race information, contact the track (316) 755-1781.
The O'Reilly/NCRA is in the midst of their 39th consecutive season of sanctioning dirt track races across the Midwest, including their sprint car, late model, modified, Oklahoma modified and sport modified divisions.
