That driver is the track record holder on the old OKC 1/2 mile. A record that will never be broken as long as Lanny is there.

Mark Kinser works for the Department of Transportation for Oolitic,Indiana public schools.
I have a couple of his shirts in my "T-Shirt Hall Of Fame" closet.

Imagine he gets the kids to school on time....especially if Karl is tuning the buses. That pic was taken 3/26/95, and without looking it up, anybody remember who won that day? Sort of a semi-famous name in the sport. Guess it's about time to start thinking about posting over on the geezer side of the site again, now that the season's wrapping up. Have to dig out some boxes and see what pops up.

Well i won't post the winner, but you can find the complete results at openwheeltimes.com. If you haven't ever checked out openwheeltimes.com you are missing out! Kevin Eckert has almost every sprint car and midget race result from every track in the United States for the last 30+ years entered into a database. Kevin also writes a politically incorrect column about once a month that chronicles midget and sprint car racing from coast to coast!
Example of a search result on openwheeltimes.com
Open Wheel Times Race Results Knoxville Raceway, Knoxville,IA Date of Race: 8/9/1983 # View Race Notes A Feature 1: Ewell, Bob (85) 2: Armstrong, Tony (11) 3: Wooley, Greg (23) 4: Founds, Jiggs 5: Constant, Stan (17) 6: Brewer, Ken (96) 7: Matchen, Troy 8: Jennings, Bruce (75) 9: McWhorter, Walt (98) 10: Copeland, Herb (1n - Nance) 11: Tapp, Gary (2) 12: DeWall, Gary (16) 13: Shouse, Danny 14: terSteege, Dutch (501) 15: Wolfgang, Doug (88 - King) 16: Schrader, Ken (86 - Hill) 17: Maier, GarryLee (11x) 18: Jennings, Earnest (61) 19: Suggs, D.E. Sleeze is very impressive with his knowledge. I look at his site often. I even looked up my name and I don't know how, but he even had stuff on me.

Congratulations to MJM Sleepy...Jeff was the guy that day. That wasn't the race that got blown away, but it was cold. I remember the day it blew so hard, Steve K got blown into the third turn wall and spun. Later he was sitting on the wall in turn four, talking to Lasoski, and he said "when that wind hit me, my balls weren't any bigger than yours....." Not mentioned much anymore, but the Dude is what in horse racing is called a ridgeling due to testicular cancer. A real survivor, and more power to him. By the way, does anyone recall if this was an Airflow wing?

I don't think Russell ever built wings for Jeff Swindell. We did build some for Mark Kinser and Sammy. Sammy won at Las Vegas with an Airflow.

Just did some research. According to Eckert's site and motorsports.com, Haudenschild actually did win the March show in OKC. Jeff won the June show. But the picture of Jeff's wing dance was taken in the daylight, indicating a March show whereas the light in Galen's pic of Mark looks to be low and from the west indicating the June show. I'm soooo confused. LOL. Help.....

Upon further review, it appears that Jeff won the March '96 WoO show in OKC. Not '95. Sorry Galen, not trying to one up ya.

I believe the year that winded out was 1997. I remember this because a few weeks after the OKC show was cancelled due to wind, Steve Kinser got to run the month of May and the Indy 500. Anyways, they were interviewing him before his qualifing run and the reporter asked him if it was scary going into turn one wide open at 230+ M.P.H. and Kinser replied - yeah, but its nothing compared to running a sprint car at Oklahoma City when its windy!
