RACERS BARBEQUE PUT ON HOLD UNITL 2010

FROM: Troy Hennig

Date: August 19, 2009

(Chico, CA 8-19-2009)…After 18 years of hosting the Racer’s Barbeque John Perry (JP) is taking a year off. The Racer’s Barbeque was an annual tradition on the Friday afternoon of Gold Cup. Many of the race fans and teams ended up at JP’s Paint and Body Works for the great food, beautiful cars and immense atmosphere. “It was just time for me to take a year off and relax during the Gold Cup,” said JP from his office. “It takes a lot of hard work to make the barbeque a success. But on the same hand it doesn’t allow me the freedom to mingle in the pit area after the races on Wednesday or Thursday. I think this year I’m going to do a little mingling.”

This is not a permanent situation. JP assured us that he would be back stronger than ever in 2010. He will once again host the Knoxville Bound Benefit that sends a person with a terminal illness to an Outlaw event. JP will also renew the Racer’s Barbeque in 2010 during the Gold Cup. Even though both events will be sorely missed we can look forward to them coming back in 2010.

John Perry has been an amazing friend to the local racer’s and Silver Dollar Speedway. His shop is located at 1840 Park Ave in Chico, roughly one-mile from the fairgrounds. If you need to contact JP give him a call at 530-342-1328.

JPs BBq was certainly one of the highlights of my first Gold Cup last year!

I walked down there the day before to offer some help and was able to squeegee the floor for beer. Smile I dont think they needed my help, but found something for me to do anyway.

JP has a heart of gold, and wears his emotions on his sleeve for all to see.

Enjoy the time at the races JP. You have earned it!

Relax, John Perry, HA, nobody is more relaxed than this dude. Carmen Casual should be his nickname. But like a duck looks so calm above the water, JP's little feet are flying when it comes to this and other charitable events, few do it better! He's likely hooked up with some hot CA babe and she won't let him out of the Hot Tub long enough, life is sooo tough for Carmen. Heck, had I known of this sooner I maybe could have swung a trip out there, fewer people know how to party better than this cat and I miss Robbie and John an awful lot. Take It Easy...

PS I miss the whole California Hoser group, hope this finds you all well and wise, err, safe....

JP made me feel at home when I went tothe Gold Cup in 2005, helped me find a place to stay on a very short notice, invited me to the BBQ, was a good time for the KCMO sprint car fan.
