I've been there several times, I HAVE been rained out, I have stayed for Sunday racing, I love Knoxville, I tell people they should go to Knoxville, and I always suggest that people plan on staying at least until Monday. I also suggest that they buy an extra seat so they will be comfortable.
If someone doesn't have the time or money to do so, I would suggest that they consider the cost and distance of their travel before planning a trip that might leave them unable to see the race they came to see. It's a gamble.
If you have some extra vacation time, plan on using at least 1 of the days after the scheduled race to hedge your bet. Then if you have more time consider picking up some of the surrounding events.
I understand the frustration. I just don't get the bashing!

Were you there this year is my question??? Like I posted above 4 outta 7 days were affected negatively by rain. No bashing, just the facts. Many fans were sick of it, including myself, and we HAD to leave regardless. I stayed in 97 and 05 but this year it was not possible. Money is not the problem for myself as I fly down and stay at a friends house in K'ville. I have major commitments in regards to building a new home, and with work and family. I'm lucky I got to go at all. If your gonna rag on the fans that couldn't stay then you better have been there yourself.

Re-read MY posts on this issue; I was't ragging...pretty much just sharing advise from my experience. I have now reached my limit with this issue, gotta get back to my responsibilities!

I guess you were NOT in Knoxville last week. Most that were had to struggle with the rain and all. Next time keep your advice, it's not needed on this particular subject.

My 2 cents on this whole thing is this...if it weren't for the change fees and jacked up airline prices for same day flights, I would have stayed yesterday. And wouldn't you know it, one year when I planned to leave Monday was the year there were no rain delays. You take that chance when you plan for your trip to Nationals...just deal with it.
Also, you can't fault Knoxville or anyone associated the track for the lack of people staying for Sunday's race. And they made a good call to delay till Sunday, it rained off and on all night Saturday, to delay it like Wednesday wouldn't have worked. Cappy is one of the best...but even he can't control the weather.
Over the years the Nationals may have changed but for me, the thrill will never be gone. Where else can you get 120-130 cars completing for pretty much 24 spots?
