David Smith, Jr. NCRA Press and Contingencies (405) 740-4769 NCRA Sport Modifieds Set for Hutch Nationals FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - Hutchinson, Kansas - July 19, 2009 - The past 52 years have seen a total of twenty-one different divisions throughout the history of the Hutchinson Grand Nationals. From jalopies to championship dirt cars, from late models to late model sportsman, limited sprints to outlaw sprints and everything in between, all types of divisions have seen action. This year will be no exception as the O'Reilly/NCRA sport modified regulars will see who will etch their name as the first ever winner as the series readies for the 53rd Annual Hutchinson Grand Nationals, atop the Kansas State Fairgrounds on Saturday night, July 25. Chad McNamara, who has competed at the nationals in previous street stock events, leads the O'Reilly/NCRA sport modified point standings despite not reaching victory lane in the three events that have been held. He holds a very slim five point lead over Amarillo, Texas driver Donnie Raney (one feature win) and Robert Elliott of Clinton, Oklahoma (two feature wins) as they continue their battle for the inaugural championship. Nick Shenberger of Enid currently sits third in the point standings while Frank Graven of Cushing, Oklahoma currently sits fourth in the point standings. Gravens won the first ever O'Reilly/NCRA modified event held at the Nationals back in 1986 and looks to be the first ever sport modified champion as well. Randy Thomas of Elk City, Oklahoma sits fifth in the point standings while Guthrie, Oklahoma driver Todd Decker currently sits sixth. Other series regulars who have indicated their intentions of competing include Kenny Morris, Bob Mock, Kevin Snow, Mike Shenberger, Mark Wilson, Ross McCartney, David Givens, Walter O'Dell, Landon Maddox, Perry Colby, Don Reed and Hesston Shaw. Eighteen out of the top nineteen drivers in the point standings have competed in all three events that have been held and are one big reason as to the huge success this division has seen during its first year. Drivers will not only compete for the Hutchinson Nationals crown but also $700 to the Cherokee Casino-Resort feature winner with $100 to start the finale. Only the O'Reilly/NCRA southern sport modified rules will apply so please see rules or call for more information.
