Ok, I did something I should've done before I posted that. I went and watched the Thriller video all the way through. Now I've got a challenge to everyone on here to do the same. Then post how many outside passes you saw in any class through the complete video, not side by side ie; the fast car passes the slow car on the inside, but the fast car passes the slower car by driving around them on the outside. Make your judgement after that.

Do you think that we sprint car guys can just "get" harder tires. Do harder tires just grow on the tire tree? Is there a "Hard Tire Fairy" that comes around and gives sprint car racers harder tires magically if they ask him really, really nicely? If you can find a harder tire than what I got in the size that I run, please hook me up, since I am looking for a harder left rear and right front. I had an RC-3, on my car on friday night (a decision based upon needing the hardest tire that I could get my hands on). I can't get a harder tire on my left rear in the size that I need, I burned through an RD12 in 20 laps. it has cost me 750 per week to put new tires on, necessitated by the fact that I couldn't make 5 more laps on the tires without them blowing up. I have considered purchasing an ASCS hard because I have been worried about burning through in the features, but now that I am down to 2 wheels, I can't really do that now and have the tires that I need for the heat race. Now, granted, I don't race at Lawton Speedway, but from what I have seen of lawton speedway this year, the same might be said for tire wear at lawton that can be said about state fair (maybe not as bad). I guarantee you that there aren't too many people who can afford to spend 750 a week for 500 to win. Now, just so that I am not denouced as some no- talent hack that cannot drive on anything than a suck-the-soles-off-of-your-shoes tacky track, I must say that my wins this year (2 of them) have all come on dry tracks, and I am running for a thousand, not for 500 to win. And, yes, even though my wins and top 5s have come on dry tracks, I still don't like them. I'd rather be able to actually race on the track than just sit behind somebody and wait for somebody to make a mistake.

Yea maybe I should be in a sport mod but maybe you should be watching drag racing or NASCAR. Maybe the sprint cars should get on harder tires think about that. I don't mind a heavy race track in the heats but when its so muddy it takes an hour to pack the track and you still have to pack the track when you go out for the heat races thats a little excessive. By the way what car do you drive since you know so much? How much does it cost you to race? $10 a week?

I think we should run knobby's. Can you get a set of turf tamers in a 105" rollout?

Hate to tell you guys this but those ten dollar seats are the reason you have a race track to race at. No butts in the stands will translate to no race track. Do you think the casual fans the might come out to the races a couple of times a year want to have dirt being blown in there face. No. That causes no repeats or postive recommendations to go to the races. I hate having to work on a tore up race like everyone else but fans like to see speed and crashes. If you can stpo people from driving over there head there would not be as much tore up equipment. But that has been a problem at Lawton for a long time becuase there has been knowbody to making a call on rough driving and allowing for that to happen.

I did not know you couldn't buy a hard sprint car tire. I understand you don't want to spend money on tires each week trust me I don't either. You ever try buffing your tire when they're new before you run them? It doubles the life on our tires. I'm thinking your in a super sprint right? Why not a 2-barrel? If money is an object I think thats the last class I would choose. $30k+ in a motor and you've go a problem with spendin $500 on tires? Cheese did I get that $$ figure right? I guess I am lost???????? Heck I'm just a dumb old modified guy, hell I'm even stupid enough to have a Ford that lasted 5 years and paid for its self twice.

Hard sprint car tires are hard to find but a hard tire doesn't mean it will last longer. With a harder tire you will have more will spin which will create more it and the you burn up a tire becuase of heat. For a sprint tire to work right the tire has to keep wearing thus the reason we have to replace tires so often on dry. A two barrel and a super sprint motor is pretty much the same motor except for the injection and dry sump. When it comes down to it racing a super sprint makes more sense money wise than a two barrell. Racings cheap, winnings expensive.

$30k motor??? wow, that would be awesome. And it is not $500, it is north of $750. And I don't have a problem with spending $750+ on tires. It is spending it every week.

Kinda hard when everybody is wanting to run middle up. Could it be that the bottom isn't the only groove??? hmm

--BREAKING NEWS-- July 14, 2009 -- OKLAHOMA CITY, OK -- Heavy tracks are the anti-racing!!! Dry tracks OWN!!! --THANK YOU. THAT IS ALL. --

As a fan generally the best racing I've seen has been on dry tracks. The nights that the track is heavy (especially at the SFS) produces ho-hum racing at best. At times in the past, it has had me questioning why we continue to even go to the SFS. Case in point: The last ASCS National show....borrrring..... *yawn*. It had the potential to be a great show, but instead it had me thinking "I paid $20 for THIS?! I've seen more passing in a drag race at Thunder Valley!" My family has LOVED the track these past few weeks at the SFS. Dry and smooth. It has produced some of the best racing we've seen there in quite a while. I know some fans complain about the dust. These same people probably go to a water park and complain about everything being wet. Ha ha. While I don't drive or own a racecar, I understand that racing is EXPENSIVE, probably more than the average fan. I know the dry tracks are hard on tires, I saw plenty of smoke rolling off the right rears last Friday, but man was that some GREAT racing! That sloppy, heavy stuff just doesn't even come close and while it may be easier on tires it has to be hard on everything else, especially the drivetrain. The best way to keep from tearing anything up is to just keep it on the trailer. Ha ha. But what do I know? I'm just one of those $10 racers. wink
I like dirt!
