Tyler Walker Has Uncharacteristic Tulare Run

By Gary Costa

Tulare, CA (June 27, 2009) – The SC Motorsports team headed to the Tulare Thunderbowl to compete with the Golden State Challenge Series Winged 410 Sprint Car Series. Walker and the team had high hopes to repeat what they did back on May 16th at the speedway – win the main event.

The team figured that they had left all of their bad luck back in Skagit, Washington where Walker was headed toward winning the big Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup, but the racing gods had other plans as Walker lost the motor with 5 laps to go.

The night would start out promising for Walker with him qualifying the SC Motorsports, NMI Industrial Contractors No. 24 in the third slot with a 14.451 lap. Walker then went onto finish third in his heat race and won the dash which set him up on the front row of the 30 lap feature event.

When the green lights flashed on around the speedway, Walker would lose a couple of positions on the racetrack, and then contact was made with Kyle Larson, with Larson taking a ride. Walker suffered a flat right rear tire during the melee and was forced to start at the rear of the field. Walker would do what he could to move up, but unfortunately he would eventually finish a disappointing ninth.

"Tonight was real frustrating. I'm not going to complain though; I'm able to do what I love to do. I would like to congratulate Brent Kaeding and his team on their win," Walker explained. "They did a great job tonight. It was just one of those nights. The guys worked real hard all night long, and that's all I can ask for. We'll just load it up, and look forward to Chico; we're not ready to layover and tap out just yet."

The next event for Tyler Walker will come at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, CA for Round No. 17 for more GSC action. Walker currently sits third in the points standings. Walker finished fourth in the main event after coming from the back of the field in the last Chico GSC visit on May 9th.

From my point of view....it looked as if larson rode up walker's right rear going into turn 1 and flipped about 3 times into the fence/wall in turn 1. Took out the light and had to repair the fence with some welding.

The fire/safety crew at Tulare is hands down the fastest and most responsive group I have seen at a track in recent memory.

Luckily I saw Larson walking around the pits after the race. I'm glad hes alright. He's had a rough go of it in his outings at Tulare this year.
