Brian Brown – One Step Back!
(Bill W) June 3, 2009 – Brian Brown felt like he may have taken a step back with his 12th place effort at Knoxville Raceway last Saturday night. What can be chalked off as a bad night, started well in qualifying. This weekend, he'll try it again at Knoxville before heading out next week for the first three legs of ASCS Speedweek.
Coming out 14th out of the 30 cars entered, Brian laid down the third quick time of the night. "That's one thing we've been working on lately, and it seems that we're decent there now," says the Grain Valley, Missouri driver. "The Maxim chassis and Ostrich power are really coming together there."
Starting sixth in his heat, Brian held down the fifth and final transfer, before Kerry Madsen came from the tail to take it from him. "We had a good race with Madsen there in the heat for fifth," says Brian who ended up snatching it back in the late stages.
Strategy for the 20-lap main event may have been a little dramatic. "We've done the same thing for the feature at Knoxville for a few years," says Brian. "We've just changed a bit here and a bit there. We tried to do something a little bit different for the A main there, and it didn't work out too well."
Brian struggled after starting inside row three, and slowly backed up to twelfth at the checkers. "We put a different left rear tire on, and could never get the car to lay left," he says. "Without the wing speed, it's not going to lay left. It was one of those deals where we outguessed ourselves a little bit. With the quality cars at Knoxville, you can't afford to do that, and you're going to run twelfth."
Things have hit a bit of a lull for the Brian Brown Racing SuperClean #21 team, but they are determined to turn it around. "We need to pick up the pace," says Brian. "We've been going backwards here for a couple weeks, and we plan on turning that around."
The team returns to Knoxville on Saturday. Then they will head south for ASCS Speedweek. Racing will find them at Creek County Speedway near Sapulpa, Oklahoma on Tuesday, Devil's Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas on Thursday, and the State Fair Speedway in Oklahoma City on Thursday.

Bob Wilson asks: Hey Brian, as a former teacher I always wonder what classes really "clicked" with you guys when you were in high school. So what class was it? And, what teacher was it…and do you know why?
Brian answers: School and I really didn't get along the best. The biggest part of it for me was hanging out with my friends. I wish now that I would have paid more attention, because so much we do now with these racecars are things that you learn in school. Honestly, my favorite class was probably P.E. Being active and being competitive at anything we were doing was big.

Wins include three each at the Knoxville (IA) Raceway, Junction Motor Speedway (NE), and Sedalia's State Fair Speedway (MO). Single wins came at the Capital Speedway (MO), Bolivar Speedway (MO) and Crawford County Speedway (IA).
