Mike Shenberger was in the right place at the right time as he posted his first win of the season in the limited modified rain makeup feature in racing action Saturday night at Enid Speedway Park.

Travis Johnson raced off the outside pole and had a huge lead when a five-car crash blocked turn three in the second lap. He led until Shenberger overtook him on the eighth lap.

Shenberger, despite another caution, led the rest of the way. Earl Whitley, Robert Elliott, Scott Parli and Kenny Morris rounded out the top five.

Johnny “The Rocket” Rauschenberg posted his first win of the year in the second limited modified main.

Ross McCartney hustled off the outside pole and had more than a straight-away lead when a caution waved in lap 7. He headed up the field on the restart, but all that effort was for naught as a four-car crash in turn two brought the yellow flag back out.

McCartney lost the lead on lap 15 after tangling with lapped traffic. Rauschenberg kept the lead to the finish line. He was followed by McCartney, Randy Sallee, Kenny Morris and Mark Willson following at the line.

Ponca City’s Brendon Gemmill put his Yes Finance- sponsored modified in victory lane for the first time this season.

“I spent a lot of time this week on the car, I tore it apart and the time paid off,” said Gemmill. “I want to thank David Patocka, Chris Hooley Royce McDowell and my dad.”

Pacesetter Greg Burt headed up the field until overtaken by Gemmill on the sixth lap. Gemill skillfully maneuvered through lapped traffic on his way to the winner’s circle.

Kip Hughes posted second, followed by Burt, Allen Chickering and Dusty Robbins.

Hughes conquered the field in the second main event as he led from flag-to-flag, aboard his Precision Wireline sponsored modified.

Bud Longpine captured second with Dusty Robbins, Greg Burt and Brendon Gemmill trailing at the line.

Dustin “Hollywood” Allen won his second race of the season in the first street stock main event, aboard his SMPC/Allen Tire sponsored-ride.

Allen hurried off the outside pole and boasted nearly a straight-away lead in a mere two laps. Allen wasn’t challenged to victory lane after that.

Ryan Bohnstedt posted second, followed by Wesley Krukenburg, Jon Herring Sr. and David Fisher.

Bohnstedt led all 12 laps in taking the second main event.

Jon Herring, Sr. was second, trailed by Krukenburg, Rick Misener and Fisher.

Despite challenging track conditions, J.D. Choate put his C & C Race Supply/C & C Fabrication-sponsored factory stock in victory lane for the second time this year.

“The track was tough tonight and hard to drive,” said Choate.

Choate raced off the outside pole and showed the way. He appeared invincible until John Whitley made a bid for the lead at the race’s midpoint. It was a drag race for several laps with Choate holding fast to the point. Whitley held onto second, followed by Brandon Gibson, Wayne Gibson and defending champion Ronnie Ramer.

Ramer put his Watonga Butane/NAPA-sponsored factory stock in victory lane for the first time this season in the second “A” feature.

Gibson dashed off the front row and appeared invincible when a caution waved in lap six. Gibson held on to the lead after the re-start, but couldn’t hold off the hard-charing Ramer.

Gibson finished second, followed by Choate, David Fisher and John Whitley trailing.

Mark Smith dominated in pure stocks with two victory runs Saturday night.

Darin Busch had a 10-car length lead in the regular race until a yellow flag waved in lap four. Smith put his Wrangler-sponsored ride into contention on the restart and a heated duel ensued as the duo raced side-by-side for several laps. Smith was able to take a straight-away lead with to laps left and sped way to victory.

Busch settled for second followed by James Goldman, Jr., Bob Goodpasture and Tim Smart.

Smith conquered the field in the makeup pure stock feature with a dazzling victory run. He took the lead on the white flag flap and never looked back.

Early leader Korey Vendetti settled for second, followed by Goodpasture, Busch and Tyson Ashlock.

Saturday night limited modified heat wins went to Landon Maddox, McCartney and Randy Sallee.

Hughes won his heat in modified.Wesley Krukenburg, Brandon Gibson and Busch won heat wins respectively in street, factory and pure stock.

Limited modified heat winners in the makeup card were Johnson, Greg Deterding, Whitley and Elliott.

Chickering captured the heat win in modified. Allen won in street stock.

Brad Costello posted the heat win in factory stock. Vendetti and Goldman taking the honors in pure stock.

Maddox and Bradley Savoy won the limited modified “B” features.

Enid Speedway Park’s next card of racing will be at 7 p.m. Saturday.

did you happen to see where the 74 spun the 85 on the back straight while under green???

My biggest question was in the 2nd limited mod A feature with about 6 or 7 laps to go there were several cars that spun out in turn 2, I know the 21(rauschenberg) and 0k (morris) were both sitting still. Both of them were told to go to the rear of the pack so they pulled up on the front straight and told the official "the secret pass word" and got their spots back. Im fairly sure the rule states that if you are the one who caused the caution or if you are sitting still when there is a caution you go to the rear of the field. This is nothing against these two guys, I know both of them. I just believe that the rules need to be followed or why even have them????

on a different note, congrats to Jason Hughes(#12 USMTS modifieds) in the last 7 USMTS races, he has 5 wins and two 3rd place finishes.

I was working on the car during the meeting but i belive they changed the rule on stoping if you spin out to avoid a wreck in front of you they will give you your spot back! Not 100% on that but if it is i think its a good change because their is nothing worse to have to go to the back because some one else lost control and you are trying to avoid their problem

but i also remember that 14w got spun by the 19 robert elliot at winter nationals under green and 14w paided him back under yellow and he got black flagged.. i guess it like the saying it doesn't matter you u know and how u blow..... the 85 must blow pretty good for how he won the championship last year and rookie of the year. because i do beleive the 42 ross would walked way with both of them very easy. THAT WAS THE BEST SCREW JOB I HAVE EVER SEEN.........that two years in row that some got screwed out of the limited modified championship.

There are some points that I agree with you but you are way off base on talking bad about the 85. Let me tell you just a little about Greg Deterding.. He is a very good racer, he and his team will help anyone in the pits that needs it, he passed out candy to all the kids last year during the intermissions, he had his motor claimed, by the 74, after the first race last year and didnt throw a big fit when the 74 was only running a junk 305 and the only reason he was able to claim was because he got saved by the yellow flag at least three times. All and all, Greg is a decent guy and shouldnt be put down because he won rookie of the year and the championship last year. Greg had nothing to do with the circumstances that caused Ross McCartney both of them trophies. If you think that, then you are truly out of touch with the real world. I bet you could even ask Ross and he would tell you that Greg had nothing to do with that incident. It would be commendable of you, if your going to talk trash about someone, to put your real name!

Im not trying to stir the pot here just wandering if you even know any of the people that you are speaking about? After your post, I would guess you dont.....

well your correct about one thing jimmy, I wasnt there for that meeting. Actually, saturday was my first night at Enid Speedway this year. Even if the rule is what you state it to be, then one of them cars should have been sent to the rear of the field (wont mention which one, I dont want to stir the pot) because they were part of the accident. You know me jimmy, I call like it is and that is how it was!!!

I agree with you here, even in the classes with smaller car counts. The sportmods put on a heck of a show. You would have thought them boys were racing for a 1000.00 to win!!!

WAY TO GO GUYS!!!!

Greg Deterding missed a week last year when his son was born and if he wouldnt have missed that he would have won regardless. They are the nicest people you will ever meet in your whole life. I like Ross M alot too and hes a good friend of mine as well. Lets all keep the trash talk down because it gets out of hand quick and we need to promote this track. Congrats to Ryan B on the second feature to.

your absolutely right Dusty!!!

I didnt know about the new rule but it absolutely makes good sense... in this case only one of the cars I spoke about should have been sent to the rear, he was very much a part of the wreck and still got his spot back.

It is what it is....

your correct but ones opinion shouldnt improve ones finishing spot on the race track. I swear, I just told 5 people today that it would be stated that it was the opinion of the officials that both of them cars were trying to avoid the wreck. The really weird thing is this, you have 3 cars that are racing each other very hard get together and spinout 2 more cars come to a stop to avoid a crash, yellow flag comes out and when the line up is finally set, no one went to the rear of the field. This isnt opinion, this is fact. Heck, I was just making a point and with it I know I am correct (especially since you told me of the new rule). It was some really good racing though. Have yourself a good evening jimmy.

that what i;m say greg missed one race ross missed 4 races and lost less 1 race of points

he missed the first week because he didn't have a car yet . the second time he missed because he was going to be out of town for his daughters ball game . so he was letting brandon gemill drive it.

ross also made it back in time race but he was man of his words and let brandon drive it. branden also won that week .

the other two miss was a bs call. u all know the story...

and greg race limited the year before for about 5 race so how was he a rookie in that class

it was ross for the first time in that class.....
