After Saturday nights rain out and Sundays final race at manzy I have few thoughts and or remarks about the storied track. I loved the fact that Ronnie Shuman and Leland Mcspadden got to bring the final curtain down on the fabled racing surface but alas it left me yearning for more. Where were the so called Manzanita lovers such as J.J. Yeley, who's midget was there but the aforemnetioned individual was not there. I understand Billy and Chad Boat had races at Tony Stewart's Eldora Speedway, but at the least couldn't they have sent in a tape recorded message giving their thoughts and remarks about their "beloved" home track? As a man who saw Ascot die as a kid I hate to see the historic tracks loose their never ending battle to the progress of their surrounding communities. Why wasn't the farewell to Manzanita a little more thought out, I don't mean to sound as if I'm bashing the program so please don't interpret it that way. I am just venting some thoughts and questions that have been plaguing me on the long journey from Phoenix to my So. Cal home. I know the untimely sale played a big role for time constraint reasons of not getting more historic people there. When Ascot closed they were able to get Evel Knievel, Parnelli Jones and the like who raced there. I just feel Manzy kind of just threw things together because of the sale of the property. Anyway, as a bitter man who hates the situation surrounding the sale of Manzanita I would like to say that it did bring a tear to my eye and left me with a sad, empty feeling in my stomache. Two Historic tracks dead which one's next? Ascot park Raceway 1957-1990/Manzanita Speedway 1951-2009
