Not sure if he has put out an official press release, but Ricky Logan is said to be committed to running the Lucas Oil ASCS National tour in '09

Garry Lee Maier will not be running the tour. He will be driving the Ochs Brothers #1x out of Kansas and more than likely run the NCRA 360 deal and surrounding ASCS races. He is staying closer to home and family.

Lonnie wrote this some time ago but .....
Eight of those return for the full Lucas Oil Sprint Car series campaign in 2009, including defending champion Jason Johnson, four-time series champion Gary Wright, 2003 champion Travis Rilat, 1992 champion Garry Lee Maier, Eric Baldaccini, Nick Smith, Kenneth Walker and Kathryne Minter.
Two of the other entries return with new pilots, including Danny Wood aboard the H&H No. 94 machine and Brady Bacon aboard the Tel-Star car driven by Gary Taylor last year.
Back on the Trail : Also expected to vie for the Lucas Oil ASCS Sprint Car Series crown in 2009 are the likes of three-time series champion Tim Crawley, Shane Stewart, Tony Bruce, Jr., Jesse Hockett, 16-year-old Trey Robb and veteran shoe Rickey Hood. (Hoods ride is supposed to have gone to Paul McMahan)
Rookie Contenders : A slew of rookie contenders includes the likes of Arkansas' Ricky Logan, Washington's Seth Bergman, Ohio's Darren Long, Colorado's Chad Corken, Arizona's Ben Gregg and Oklahoma's Matt Covington. Other possible rookie contenders, though unconfirmed, include Brian Brown, Jack Dover, Josh Fisher and Derek Hagar.

It should be a good year for sprint car racing this year with the WoO doing well, Usac pulling in large fields and the ASCS gaining a nice field of drivers for the national tour. Maybe this is the year that a few drivers will break up the big three; Johnson, Johnson and Wright. I am a 410 fan but will definitely be following the ASCS on Vs. channel. Go Rocket!!!
I think Wayne Johnson is trying to pursue 410 racing in the WoO and/or Knoxville.

I get a laugh out of Ricky Logan being a rookie to anything in sprint car racing. Sure he's been racing sprints for 20 years but here is your R O Y award
More weight, more regulation, more similarity in the
cars.... that will ensure plenty of thrills for years
to come. Only the most average talent behind the
wheel will be needed with such awesome equipment on
the track!

I'm pretty sure the Wolfgang rumor was just that....a rumor. From what I understand from talking to Loren, they're going to race pretty much as they did last year. It does sound like they're going to Devil's Bowl later this month though....so they may do a little bit of traveling, but no national tour.

Thanks for all the replies and thanks to the ASCS guys for putting out the list of drivers going to compete. Looks like it will be a tough year to make an A-main at an ASCS National event.

Didn't know Crawley ever confirmed that he was running for the ASCS National championship in '09, his website doesn't say anything one way or the other yet.

Hmm....maybe Loren has changed his mind and is taking Robby on the road.....I'm surprised by that! If that's the case, I wish them luck!

funny you say that. I bet it would be tougher to make an ASCS A Main than a WoO A Main. outside of PA of course lol.
now keep in mind - I said MAKE the A MAIN - NOT WIN THE RACE. The reason it would be easier with the WoO is when they only have 26-27 cars and they put 24 in the feature - well........
If ascs can both retain a high following as well as have regional drivers show up (many of their ASCoT races are in fact in regions where they already have.......regions)............this could be a wing dinger of a year for ascs. Hell, I hope its a good year for every track and series. with the economy lookin the way it does, with the truth becoming more apparent all the time, one has to kind of wander bout the future.
How much would could a wouldchuck chuck if a

What no John Katich??? No rude remarks??? I hope it is a successful year for all the ASCS touring series.. It seems like their are a lot of commitments from drivers to run the entire NATIONAL series, and with enough gaps in the National schedule, it should give them time to freshen up. It should be interesting to see who stays true to there word and stays with the series through the finale in October..
