Three NCRA Divisions Kick Off '09 Season Later This Month
With the turning of the calendars to the month of March, that only means one thing if your a race fan or driver, the dawning of yet another race season. Such will be the case for the O'Reilly/National Championship Racing Association as three of the series' six divisions will kick of the 2009 race season later this month in what will become the 39th consecutive year for the NCRA.
It all kicks off on Saturday night, March 21, at Elk Citys I-40 Speedway in Elk City, Oklahoma as the first ever visit to the city West of OKC will come to fruition with the debut of the new NCRA Oklahoma modified and sport modified divisions. Over 100 drivers from throughout Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas are expected with modified drivers competing for the $1000 to win, $200 to start Cherokee Casino - Resort feature finale and the $500 to win, $100 to start sport modified Cherokee Casino - Resort twenty car feature. There will be an entry fee of $50 for modified drivers, $25 for sport modified competitors.
Steel heads are required for the new NCRA Oklahoma modified division, however, aluminum heads will be allowed (23 degree angle) with 50 lb weight bolted to the front of the motor plate. Tires allowed will be the Hoosier IMCA or Hoosier 500 unstamped. McCreary G-60 tires will be allowed but those drivers will not be awarded points for the year end season championship.
The sport modifieds will run the current IMCA type rules and the Ford 9 inch rear end will not be allowed.
The track has also adopted NCRA rules for the tracks weekly Saturday night 2009 race season. Complete rules and purse for both divisions can be found on the official NCRA website http://www.ncraracing.org/.
An open practice session is scheduled for the track from 7:00 PM until 10:00 PM on Friday night, March 20, with $10 admission to the pits, grandstands free. Gates on Saturday race night open at 3:00 PM with racing at 6:00 PM.
Then one week later on Saturday night, March 28, the NCRA modified division will kick off their 12th consecutive season at 81 Speedway in Park City, Kansas. Marc Hurd of Wichita, Kansas will look to defend his 2008 series championship as over forty drivers are expected for the tracks opener.
Several NCRA Oklahoma modified drivers have indicated their intentions to compete with steel heads only allowed for the Cherokee Casino - Resort $1000 to win, $300 to start "A" feature. Only tires allowed are the Hoosier 83/8-15, A40 or H-40 or 83/8-15 A40 or H-40 "WRS" or Hoosier IMCA stamped tire. No D-40 allowed.
Elk Citys I-40 Speedway is located I-40 west to exit 34 (Merritt Road) then 1/2 mile north, then 1/2 mile west.
